Saturday collecting food non perishable and gift cards for Coast Guard members who out a paycheck due to the government shut down. If you cant get up to Wal Mart you can drop off items at the American Legion POST 64 on American Legion Road off Route 50. Legion will be open after noon each day. Your help is really needed.

This is nothing short of amazing! Speaker Pelosi has given Congress a 3 day weekend, with pay, while the folks that risk their lives to keep us safe go without pay. How is this possible?
Why don't the Federal employees who are not getting paid apply for Food Stamps? Maybe they aren't because any savings that they have tucked away for a nice vacation is countable income and would be counted against them. Also, a lot of them should have 401K's or other plans set up and they would not have any problem getting any of it out since the shutdown is considered a real emergency.

When I was furloughed several years ago I didn’t receive any help (also didn’t get any back pay, which these employees will). Claim unemployment like anyone else would do in the private sector. Please don’t say this isn’t their fault they’re not working. It wasn’t my fault ether. CEOs collected millions in bonuses and layed off 10s of thousands of workers. It was just the Gannet way.
A big thank you to the American Legions Post 64 of Salisbury, Post 116 in Ocean City and MANY others who are collecting non perishable food and $20.00 gift cards for the Coast Guards units who are with out pay due to the Government Shut down.
When the going gets tough we Americans pull together. This is the American Way!
So these government employees are accepting donations, food and other assistance that was intended for those really in need. Their pay is simply delayed until the furlough ends. Will they pay back all of that money and replenish those food banks out of their own pocket? For most, highly doubtful.
