The mysterious, rare 'polio-like' disease blighting the US has now spread to 31 states, sickening at least 116 children.
And yet, officials still have no idea what causes acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), nor how to treat or prevent it.
The poorly understood illness, which can cause paralysis and, in rare cases, prove deadly, has struck Colorado the hardest, followed by Texas.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently investigating a further 170 cases of people with tell-tale symptoms of AFM.
There has already been more than three-and-a-half times as many cases as last year, but doctors remain baffled as to what is causing the illness.

This is sad. Most of our childhood diseases had been cleared to almost nothing with vaccines for many years. Now with all these Illegal Immigrants coming into our country illegally just what kind of diseases are they bringing in?? No one really knows Also now a lot o parents refuse to have their children given vaccines which is not helping.
You are absolutely wrong about vaccines. You should do a little research before you ignorantly speak. This outbreak could be a SIDE AFFECT of a vaccine. Just like the outbreak of measles. Not one person that had the measles were unvaccinated. You literally can not spread a virus that you don’t have or carry. Everyone’s seemed to be on the bandwagon about polio being eradicated so why they still shooting up younger generations with the vaccine. Hmmmm. Do your homework. You have been brainwashed. Every wonder why there’s an ungoldly amount of auto immune disorders? Autimsim increase 20 fold?? You think the government is protecting you? look for yourself. Look at the ingredients. Like e. Coli bad in lettuce but okay in vaccines? Polysorbate 80 that crosses the blood brain barrier? Do you KNOW what the does to you? Please don’t take my word for it. Do some research. Pick up history books. It’s not too hard.
There are so many diseases that have come about over the last years like Fibro, which have no known cause or cure. Kids in college that don't wake after sleeping in the dorm for no apparent reason. We are currently in the middle of a super outbreak with no known reasons. Has it occurred to anyone that these disease are cultured and passed along to us as someones enemy?
This garbage is being brought into America by those damn refugees and illegals.No one knows what diseases these scum are bring in here. We eradicated polio and now there are cases of it again.It is still in Mexico and other third world countries. I am curious as to what you cry babies will say when your children get those horrible diseases.
