If volunteering is mandatory with sanctions if you don't, then it's not really volunteering.
Funny enough these retaliation strongarm tactics are often employed when its time to donate to the United Way
More than once I have been subtly threatened if I did not donate. I handed them a quarter and walked away.
Violation of labor laws. File a complaint and clean Day’s clock.
If they would have come forward sooner and signed a partition and let it be known there would have been no reprisals. But to cower and then complain about it garnishes no sympathy.
Ditto 10:08. Forced community service is flagrant violation. Any uncompensated time is violation. City is inviting trouble and deserve what they get. And I hope they're nailed if this is accurate.

1. Talk about how you are for the people, being fair, and kind to everyone
2. Tell people how the other side are bullies, uncaring, and power hungry
3. Gain power and exert that power on others. Force them to do things or threaten them.
This is the danger when socialists gain power. When they don’t have power they are an amusing sideshow. When they get power they become abusive and dangerous.
I'd love to sign that partition. Which wall do I use?
AAAAAAHHHHH no different than poultry companies that scheduled folks to "volunteer" at what was the Chicken Festival. It's a part of the job.
