Give Till It Hurts

I give to my church and the Salvation Army directly at Christmas. United Way will never get a cent from me.
Back in 1976 my mother was forced to leave my father because he was an alcoholic and became very violent and abusive when he was drinking.
Because of this, we had to move in with my Aunt and Grand parents for a period of time until my mother could get a job and get us a place to live.
I am grateful to this day because of the kindness of relatives to get us through this period of our lives.
I was only 14 at the time. We tried to get help from the united way and was turned away for housing assistance and for assistance for food.
I guess we were not the right skin color because we are white and I guess we should know better!
To this day, I will not every give them a damn cent. I will help those who were there for me, which was my family and my church family who helped us get back on our feet.
They should feel bad giving to people who kill babies. If you give to them, you are guilty,Of supporting and God will punish! Salvation Army is a good choice! I believe WMCA also get money, if they are a non profit, why should they get our money. It is a shame that large companies support and want all employees to donate money!
I give to Halo because it stays local. The local salvation army has really gone down hill. They changed their closing time from 6pm to 5pm and regularly close over an hour before that, or don't open at all. People dump off junk at the back door so they dont have to go to the dump. Good, high quality donations sit out in the parking lot for days. There are people standing around at the back door not even bothering to take these items in. Often they get ruined by the weather or carted away by Hatians. I can't be upset at the people who make the trip to donate, find the place closed before closing time, and just leave the stuff outside because they don't have time to haul the stuff back home and try another day. I also can't be mad at the pickers because the stuff will just get ruined if they don't take it. That place needs a change of management. I also don't donate to Goodwill because the only scam charity larger than them is the Clinton Foundation.
The United Way is too controlling over the organizations they give money to, yet within their own organization they overpay their staff and are not good stewards of donors' funds. They are a hypocritical group with a bad culture that starts at the top. There are many better ways to support worthy organizations than funneling money through the United Way.
Good thing the local UW finally kicked crooked KM out of there. Can she stop crying about it already? People get fired every day. Suck it up and move on.
@ August 31, 2018 at 2:25 PM. You're exactly right. My mother worked at Blind Industries and tried for assistance and was turned away. There were black women who worked there and EVERYONE of them was getting assistance. Anyone tell me it is not because of their color that get's them assistance.

I can forgive, but I will not forget!
I know I stopped giving to United Way over 30 years ago, for similar reason's.
Salvation army is the best way to donate.
United Way did essentially the same thing to me.
I wouldn't give them shelter in a hurricane.
And I give to LOTS of charities.
AND they had enough to give away 2 mil to baby killers??

The local United Way does not support this organization. As a recent Board member I can assure you of this.

Love united. Sounds more like for united. Can't wait till they come around my school so I can inform everyone about there spending choices.
I have never donated to the United Way and I will never donate to the United Way. Do some research and investigate the organizations they support.
