The only thing at GE that dropped in value faster, was their stock. After promoting liberal propaganda at NBC And MSNBC, GE deserves what they got after the entire country enjoyed the Trump-bump except GE.
I try to keep my old dryer 43 years old and washer 22 years old going. Much of the new EPA mandated appliances seem to be junk from experiences I have heard.
It goes without saying that I want my expensive appliance to work for a long time, and the companies that make them know that, yet they don't warrant their products for anywhere close to anything reasonable. There's something wrong with that concept. An "extended warranty" should be a part of the purchase price.
New seems to equal expensive parts. I changed the control assembly on my old Maytag for around 70 dollars, it's a clock motor with many switch contacts. Control panels are little computers and they will always be expensive. The water valve is probably cheap even on the new ones.
I can empathize. In my case, it’s a GE dishwasher that has leaked on and off since it was purchased. After 4 attempted repair visits, none of which solved the problem, I was advised by GE to purchase an extended warranty for $269 with a $50 “deductible” per visit. Oh yeah, sure. The well known appliance dealer in Salisbury who was thrilled to sell me six appliances did nothing but point me back to GE. It’s not just the big companies who no longer stand behind their products, it’s also the neighborhood retailer who turns their back on their customers.

We just replaced our early 1970s GE washer. It was a tank. The matching dryer lasted almost as long. They don't make them like they used to.

I guess that they didn't guarantee for more than a year all of the nuclear weapon components and jet engines they made either.

Should have bought on an AMEX card the doubles the manufacturer's warranty.

My 1989 is still running. Use in garage. The one in the kitchen I had to replace after 3 years.
So does Costco give an additional year to the manufacters.
