If you had any doubt that Sen. Elizabeth Warren has her eye on the White House, it was dispelled this past weekend when she showed up on the Sunday morning talk shows to say she wasn’t running for president.
By issuing a deliberately non-Shermanesque denial, Warren signaled her strong interest in 2020. But while the former law professor has learned to speak Washington doubletalk like a native, her other tribal connections — or lack thereof — may yet trip her up.
Rather than retracting or apologizing for past assertions of Native American identity that have been refuted by genealogists and historians, the Massachusetts Democrat is doubling down on her story about being a Cherokee or a Delaware.

I have plenty of reasons not to like Elizabeth Warren. I personally don't care if she claims to be an American Indian or not. I'm German/Irish, so I've been told and I don't want to be DNA tested to disprove that either. Her politics alone are enough to dislike her. Do we need to pile on?
Barak Obama claimed for years to be from Kenya when it was to his benefit. Then he claimed for years to be from Hawaii, again when it was to his benefit. Politicians will lie through their teeth for power, greed and money. Just ask one and they'll lie to you about it.
But he won't celebrate being half White.
So self identification trumps reality?
Just like a man who thinks he's trapped in a woman's body and can claim he's a woman?
Maybe Liz just feels like an Indian.

You are correct that her political views are toxic. But to ignore how she elbowed her way into the spotlight by claiming a protected minority status is shortsighted. As we know, politics ain't beanbag, and her consciously chosen falsehood sheds important light on whether anything she says or espouses is likely to be true.
She's a tenured law professor, and would seek to impeach the veracity of an adversary in court. Kind of sweet that her voluntary lie is the catalyst for her defeat.
Regular folk may not understand every crafty nuance of professor-speak she speaks but lying about your ancestry is easy to understand, and a losing proposition for her.
A politician is caught lying and people still get their panties in a bunch? Really.
