Petition calls for national holiday to remember Billy Graham

Billy Graham, the legendary pastor who was laid to rest last week, has a legacy that will resonate for years to come, and tens of thousands of supporters agree on a way to make his memory permanent.

An online petition asking President Donald Trump to propose a national holiday for "America's Pastor" is well on its way to achieving its goal of 75,000 signatures.

Started by Kyle Siler, the petition is addressed to Trump, both houses of Congress, North Carolina Sens. Thom Tillis and Richard Burr and state Sen. Jerry Tillman.

As of Monday morning, more than 65,000 people have signed the petition.

I'm as Conservative as the next guy, but this will not and should not pass. This is a clear violation of the separation of church and state and will not happen.

10:03, you couldn't be more wrong. First, Billy Graham claimed no certain named religion, only preaching love and praise to God that our Christian faiths recognize and our duties to love and respect each other. Making a national day of recognition or holiday doesn't even come close to the establishment clause.

By your standard, MLK day, Halloween, and President's day need to be abolished, maybe even St.Patrick's day as well.

I vote NO.

He should be remembered with a holiday. Can someone explain why he shouldn’t and Martin Luther King can have a holiday?

1105 I get your point but it must be noted neither Halloween or St. Patty's are federal holidays and President's Day has no real relation to religious observance. Just point that out because folks here seem to have real issues with forming sound logic to support opinions. The MLK-Billy Graham connection is spot on.

1159 dude, I guess you are still a part of the thick headed minority that doesn't understand that the entire history book is all about "white history". Its as if ethnic minorities did nothing but come to the US and suck up welfare.....

No disrespect to Billy Graham, We already have to many federal holidays on the calender.
