BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Should children under 14 be allowed to play tackle football?
It’s a question posed in the general assembly with potentially far-reaching implications for youth sports.
One Maryland lawmaker is set to propose a bill banning tackle football for children under the age of 14.
Del. Terri Hill, a Maryland House of Delegates member representing Baltimore and Howard Counties, is a medical doctor and sits on the Health and Government Operations Committee.

Ok, and are you going to ban hitting soccer balls with your head? Simply stop gymnastics and cheer leading. Kids that play basketball must wear thick ankle and knee braces. Ping pong - wrist braces and eye protection, no more snow skiing for our youth. I can go on all day long, but most will get my point - the rest of you pansies can go fly kites, but don't forget to wear gloves so you do not cut yourselves with the string.
Nanny state -Md leads the way. is this all they have to do in Annapolis?
Just ban American Football all together. We should join the rest of the world and embrace Soccer. It would "Whiten" up the teams too!
None of the sports you mention tend to leave participants with permanent brain damage at the rate football does. If football made boys into men, then why are so many of them on their knees before games? Go thump your chest somewhere else. Not wanting your child to get permanent brain damage doesn't make you a pansy. It makes you a good parent. Bones heal. Broken noses heal. Even a concussion, properly treated, heals. Repeated and prolonged blows to the head PREVENTS the brain from healing and causes permanent, irreversible damage. Plenty of ways to make yourself and your kids tough without beating on your head.
Exactly 1:04. My boys played football at the Salvation army and are grown now, and the coaches were very good at teaching that there is a right way to tackle and a wrong way to tackle. There is a technique, and if taught and used right, then it lessens the chance of injury. If you tackle someone with your head then you will eventually get hurt. If you tackle as you are taught then your chances are much less. Nothing is foolproof though, so if they take this away then I agree that soccer will probably be next. And then there is lacrosse too.
Hey 2:00..how about boxing or wresting?
all children should be kept in the basement wearing a helmet until they are 35 years old and then only taken out on the weekends
329, CTE is a major issue in boxing. I would think even worse than football, perhaps. Wrestling is more about submission than full on repeated blows to the head. Haven't heard that concussions present a major problem in that sport, but I could be wrong.
Better ban Tiddeley Winks also, someone may lose an eye.....better safe that sorry!!!
Right, because those are the only 2 options. Repeatedly have your kid beaten in the head or lock them away. You're so smart.
When we lose free will we have lost our freedom even if we don't agree on this issue.
Heading the ball in soccer is already against the rules locally
Outlaw all contact sports until the future player has graduated from college with a 3.5 GPA. Then they can determine if they want to pursue the sport.
Bonus: No more NFL kneelers!

It is a no brainer.
No pun intended.
