Key conservative Republican Reps. Mark Meadows of North Carolina and Jim Jordan of Ohio said Attorney General Jeff Sessions must go if he can't immediately stop leaks inside the Justice Department.
They made their comments in a column for the Washington Examiner.
Referring to House and Senate investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 elections, the congressmen wrote: "Even with the complete dearth of evidence congressional hearings have produced, the narrative machine continues to mobilize.
"Last week, The New York Times published an article using four current and former anonymous intelligence officials to suggest that George Papadopoulos, a Trump campaign volunteer, was a 'driving factor' who triggered the FBI's spying on the Trump campaign.
"These anonymous sources claim that Papadopoulos, during a night of drinking at a bar in Europe, tipped off Australian diplomats about Russian collusion efforts, which ultimately led to the FBI opening an investigation."
The two lawmakers, both members of the House Freedom Caucus, said it was odd that the FBI has not provided answers to "the critical questions that Congress has repeatedly asked" and instead leaked a "far-fetched and ill-supported story to The New York Times."

Don't believe all the leaks, Comey testified under oath in Congress that the NY Times completely fabricated an earlier story, that had multiple unnamed intelligence sources. That turned out, didn't exist. It was a complete fabrication.
Like DNI Dan Coats said in his testimony, the job of the agencies isn't to come out and refute every false story, because they'd be doing it every day.
I agree. Sessions has turned into a little homo afraid to do much of anything.
104-Reexamining the Uranium One deal, reopening the Hillary email case, reopening the Clinton Foundation pay for play investigation? If that's being afraid to do anything, keep up the good work AG Sessions!
Put Trey Goudy in.
Past due
I think many impatient commenters fail to understand that AG Sessions took command of a DOJ and FBI that was basically infested top to bottom with Obama appointees and sympathizers who had burrowed in during the past 8 years. Congress has been slow to approve many nominees for political appointees in DOJ. Those nominees, once approved, can begin to guide their staff in following the agenda of the President and the AG.
Sessions was AG in Alabama before being elected Senator so he knows how to run a DOJ. Personally disappointed in his recusal, but think he's probably closer to the nuances and facts than I so trust his judgement. The recusal made the media stfu on that topic so did have its advantages. All his other steps are in the right direction.
leave Jeff alone so he can do his job.

Trump was wrong to select a member of the swamp to be in charge of draining the swamp. As a former senator, Sessions will not investigate, or prosecute, any of his former Senate buddies, including Hillary.
