Foreigners are being asked by their respective governments to exercise extreme caution and stay within the perimeter of their resorts in Montego Bay, Jamaica, after a wave of out of control violence has overpowered local authorities. On Thursday, the country’s prime minister, Andrew Holness, declared the state of emergency in the St. James parish to “restore public safety,” and also thwart a mass exodus of international investment and tourism.
In response, the government deployed the Jamaica Defense Forces onto the city streets in what is described as a “major military operation.”
Maj. Gen. Antony Anderson, Jamaica’s national security advisor, told CTV News Channel on Friday that authorities imposed a military lockdown of the area, following 335 homicides in 2017, and as reported by CTV that is “twice the tally of any other parish” in the country.

That's really sad. I vacationed at Ocho Rios once and it was great on the resort! The people there were warm and welcoming at airport and the resort. I would love to go back someday. The weather in winter is the best!
Vacation Plans ? Go to the hood in any city preferably Baltimore , Ferguson , Detroit and most cities , this would be your vacation in Jamaica . BLM!

Since 1975 I have travelled to Jamaica at least 25 times for business and pleasure. Jamaica is the most beautiful tropical island in the world, hands down. Jamaica also has the most ignorant, obnoxious residents in the whole world, hands down.
I've known this for years. When I went there over ten years ago, I was told to stay only in the resort areas, and if you want to check out downtown Kingston, you will need to have an escort. Same with the U.S. Virgin Islands. I felt very safe in Bermuda. Those islands under British control seem much safer. Mexico and most of the resorts there are now no longer considered safe for tourists.
So how does St. James parish stack up against Baltimore on a population basis? They could be overachievers.

I have. Jamaica is just one of the 100 or so countries where I have travelled. The residents there are still the most ignorant, obnoxious people I have ever encountered. Even the residents of Venezuela are still more hospitable, and that's saying a lot considering their current circumstances.
According to Google, 184,000. Baltimore is about 3.5 times that. So per capita, they have Baltimore beat by a factor of approximately 3. Good job, Jamaica!

Jamaica is another shithole in my opinion. I have been there once on a cruise ship and that was enough. As soon as I departed the ship and walked into town I wanted to return to the ship but my wife convinced me to continue. More than one person pestered me about buying drugs and one even got in my face when I ignored him. Never again.

Jamaica is beautiful. We were warned not to venture off of the resorts without escorts. We were also warned to beware of those pushing drugs. Its a beautiful place to visit on vacation but use common sense. When we went out shopping etc we had resort escorts take us out. Its like any poor country. Disparate People do disparate things. They are taxed at high rates, even on food. They are very poor and the High crime and high drugs so you do the math, The last time i was there, the police carried big guns. Not side arms, big guns. They don't play. Go enjoy yourself but use common sense and don't stray away alone and you will be fine.
I'm amazed at how easily you people are satisfied. So its beautiful to travel to another country and be advised to just stay at resort and get drunk and stare at the water.

Exactly. I would like to walk around and talk to the people at different places. But not get robbed or killed while doing so.
Why do you go there? I know because you can tell people that you went there. BFD , get a life , another $hithole country. Spoiled people who ntravel and brag . I went to foodlion yesterday in salisbury the $hithole of the eastern shore.
The people that live in Jamaica make it a Shithole country, the countryside is pretty.

It cannot be stopped. Slowed down, maybe, but it can NEVER be stopped. As the gap between the ultra rich and the poorest of the poor gets ever wider and deeper, across the planet, you will see more and more desperate people take matters into their own hands.
The five armed guards these people have around them all the time will be no match for a neighborhood of really pissed off citizens.
