A Viewer Writes: When free really isn't free

Salisbury Star
Vol 4 No 10. January 2018

Front page article - National Folk Festival coming to Salisbury in September, continued on page 6 - second column bottom paragraph - and I quote -

" It's not just about getting bands on stage, said Bottinelli (Lora Bottinelli, Executive Director of the Ward Museum), "we saw how the sites were mapped, tents raised and food trucks organized and HOW THE BUCKET BRIGADE WORKED"

"THE BUCKET BRIGADE IS A GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS WHO COLLECT DONATIONS IN A BUCKET TO OFFSET SOME OF THE COSTS OF THIS FREE EVENT."

This bucket begging was initiated when one community could not meet its financial obligations to put on the Folk Festival. I guess now it is a normal procedure when putting on a FREE festival. I have never, ever, gone to a free festival and then been asked to donate money to a person holding a bucket. I just can not believe this community could stoop so low as to badger attendees for money. What a turn off.

Dude. People with buckets badger people for money all over Salisbury as "fund-raisers" for this group or that group. I've had them come up to my window at intersections...so to say that wouldn't happen here is completely false.

And since there is no real crime in Salisbury, per the mayor, all of the buckets will be turned in, full of money because no one would ever try to run by and grab a bucket of money.

1:06 PM Dude - you have comprehension issues. No one said it wouldn't happen here. So obvious you missed the point of the article. Go smoke another one and make a sammich, Dude. smdh

I don't think that was a good idea to let everyone know about the Bucket Brigade! Never mind, considering who would be dumb enough to hold one of them in Salisbury. That's almost entertaining to think about!

They do this at the willards fireworks every year.
I get they need donations but I still find it tacky.

Bucket carriers, one dollar for the bucket one dollar for the pocket. If someone is stealing from the bucket how are they going to prove it?

they could have the BLM carry the buckets. Now that would be entertainment

You can thank Fake Jake for the whole mess and the city may go bust because of his stupid idea instead of fixing things that need fixing.
