Get Ready for Concealed Guns in All 50 States

House panel approves law that will allow firearms-owners to cross any state line with a hidden weapon.

The National Rifle Association has called the concealed carry bill, which would make it easier for gun owners to keep their firearms hidden when crossing state lines, its “highest legislative priority in Congress.” Despite concerns raised by Democrats about states’ rights and domestic violence, the Republican-controlled Congress has pushed the proposal one step closer to becoming law.

The House Judiciary Committee late Wednesday voted 19-11 for the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, which would amend the federal criminal code to allow the concealed transport of handguns across state lines, so long as both states allow it. States will not be able to impose their individual requirements for a concealed carry license on armed travelers from other states.

I know all you anti-gun peeps would love to believe states can do away with this, the fact still remains: FEDERAL LAW OVERTHROWS LOCAL/STATE LAW. Meaning it cannot be skirted around with local and state laws to counter. Federal law always wins out over state and to challenge this (as in the immigration bullshite) only wastes taxpayer money on cases that are thrown out or dismissed or overturned by the Supreme Court.

The US Constitution's SECOND Amendment states we have a right to bear arms. For those who don't want that right, move to Sweden. You have no business here in America. We're not your kind of people.

Thanks.

Damn it 1007 Would you go LEARN AMERICAN History ASAP? The States RATIFIED the Amendment. You can stick your states rights misquote up your ass!

1010 Why get pissed? You can't fix stupid like 10:07. They revel in their ignorance and provide many of us humor to laugh at their shortcomings. They're morons and they know it as well as all of us.

Ratification is required for Amendments in the Constitution so, in essence, the states already approved of the Second Amendment Right to Carry.

Hate to burst 10:07's bubble but the Constitution is the States' Rights.

Enjoy the ignorance bliss!

I am a little confused by the article. It says....

The legislation allows firearm owners with a concealed carry permit issued by their home state to carry the firearm into any other state (all allow some form of concealed carry, although many are highly restrictive).

So by the above statement it sounds like a person like me with a Utah Concealed carry permit would not benefit from this law because it was not issued in my home state (Maryland).

But then it says ...

A residency amendment, brought by Democrat Zoe Lofgren of California, was also rejected. The amendment sought to prevent “permit shopping” by prohibiting those living in states with stringent conceal carry permit regulations from applying for permits in more lax states.

Both statements seem to contradict each other. I wonder how it would end up in the law if it does get past. Please correct me if I am missing something though in this. Maybe I have read it wrong.

Another revenue generator (pulling over out of state cars with known conceal/carry...aka VA) lost. They will think of something else to generate revenue...always happens!

This is a fantastic move watch how the criminals react when they don't know who is carrying and will do them harm and who is not carrying that they can take advantage of.

Hogan promised gun reform on cost and other areas and has done nothing. I no longer support him and I hope the NRA will not support him in the next election. Hogan is just another Democrat, like the wolf in sheep's clothing.

Well said 10:45 !

Should have been this way a hundred years ago! But really, why was this not already the rule of law? States recognize other states drivers licenses, marriage license, even queer marriages.

Should have already been legal!

Article is confusing it contradicts itself !!

and do away with lifetime bans from owning firearms. most criminals do not get lifetime sentences

To 10:24

If I understand correctly, it would allow those legally 'permitted' in their home state to carry in states that are more stringent, or for all intents 'non-carry' (i.e. Maryland).

This would cover states without a permitting process, also; their residents could visit MD without concern.

So Texas guy could visit NYC, DC or Chicago, but their residents couldn't visit TX and pack.

It would not solve the predicament in MD. But major progress. Let's hope it passes and is signed into law.
