On September 29, 2017, Daquan Cartier Dickerson, age 21 of Salisbury, was convicted of the charges of Murder 2ndDegree, Assault 1st Degree, Attempted Armed Robbery, and several Conspiracy and Handgun counts. A Wicomico County Jury returned the Guilty verdict after a four day trial.

The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred just after midnight on May 11, 2016, in the area of The Village of Mitchell Pond (Waterside Apartments) Parsons Rd, Salisbury, Maryland. Dickerson and two co-defendants, Joshua Perry and Gerald Savage, Jr., drove to the apartments, where Dickerson and Perry exited their vehicle and approached victim Keonte Gaskins, age 21, shooting Gaskins multiple times, resulting in Gaskins’ death. Dickerson confronted Gaskins in retaliation for an earlier robbery, even though Gaskins was not involved in the robbery.

Perry and Savage have already pled guilty to 1st and 2nd Degree Murder and related charges, respectively, for their role in the homicide. Both co-defendants testified at Dickerson’s trial.

Dickerson has not been sentenced for this conviction and is being held without bail pending sentencing and on charges of an unrelated crime.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Ella M. Disharoon commended the Salisbury Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and allied agencies, for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Ms. Disharoon recognized the work of key investigators Sergeant Sabrina Metzger of MSP Homicide Unit and Detective Anthony Foy and Lieutenant Jason King of the SPD Criminal Investigation Division. Ms. Disharoon also thanked Sr. Assistant State’s Attorneys Kristen M. Schultz and Karen Dean who prosecuted the case.
