ELKTON, Md. — Cecil County Executive Alan Judson McCarthy was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Thursday night, the 11 News I-Team has learned.
Maryland State Police said a trooper saw a car weaving back and forth across the center and side lines of Route 213 between Locust Point and Elk Forest roads shortly after 11 p.m. The trooper stopped the vehicle on southbound Route 213 near Spears Hill Road.
State police said the trooper smelled a strong odor of alcohol when he approached the driver.
"There was strong evidence of alcohol when the trooper made the initial traffic stop," Maryland State Police spokesman Ron Snyder said. "There was no one else in the car. No one was injured."
The I-Team has learned that the driver was identified as McCarthy, 69, of Chesapeake City.
