As a kid living in Baltimore (Waverly) in the late 50's/early 60's, we would Trick or Treat in the High-end Guilford neighborhood where we would know we'd get the "quality candy". The D'Alesandro house was one of our stops. Nancy (then D'Alesandro) would give out nickels instead of candy, so we'd hit that house as many times as we could in one night - until they caught on to us. It was the only house (mansion, actually) that would give out money. The irony is that she would never lose that tradition of giving away free money.
