As the inexorable advance of automation kills jobs from retail to manufacturing to data entry while wages in the US show only marginal signs of improvement, the Labor Department's latest biennial employment projections have revealed the fastest and slowest-growing fields in the US.
…The industries that dominate the list aren't surprising. Home health aides, statisticians, solar-panel installers and software developers and other jobs that, as Bloomberg points out, reflect the needs of an aging population, a shift to clean energy and employer demand for science, technology and math talent.
Solar photovoltaic installers – America’s fastest growing field – are responsible for installing systems on roofs or other structures, and earning a median annual wage of $39,240 in 2016 - is projected to more than double from 2016 to 2026, according to data from the Labor Department’s biennial employment projections.

Interesting. With the exception of bicycle repairman and solar/wind industry installers in the Top 10 fastest growing jobs, all remaining fastest growing jobs are in healthcare. What is scary is the Top 20 fastest declining jobs are manufacturing and repair. Clearly an indication of more and more manufacturing moving overseas.
4:58. It's also an indication of more and more automation in manufacturing. Not all the manufacturing jobs are going overseas. Want a job in the new economy? Get an education in a relevant field.
Well nothing is made to be repaired. You toss it out. Manufacturing has always been automated its just no longer automated by human hands. You want a living wage manufacturing job ? Study robotics IT and AI. There's no more assembly line unless you want to cut up chicken or rush around an Amazon warehouse tossing trash in a bin as your order tablet tick tick ticks and beeps counting down your time limit for 8 dollars an hour. Soon they too will figure out how to get rid of the human element. You will have to be in HR, development or marketing or you will be roofing with Mexicans and Cons. For magnet health care jobs now you need a BSA or advanced degree and for most home health care jobs you need to be bonded and before long likely have malpractice insurance. Things have just changed. There is little to offer hard working common sense AW SHUCKS working people and there will never be again. Buck up or get on board the welfare and disability rolls. Maybe get a pet and give up the idea of having a family. That's what it has come to.
Even in the nursing profession, some of us start from the bottom and work our way to much, much better positions. Never doubt, never quit, never be afraid to work hard.
