SALISBURY – The Wicomico Public Libraries will receive $320,000 from the county in the form of a cash advance to fund capital improvements at its downtown branch until the state reimburses the library system for the projects.
In a legislative session of the Wicomico County Council Tuesday, Andrea Berstler, executive director of Wicomico Public Libraries, requested a $320,000 loan to improve and repair parts of the system’s downtown library.
Berstler said Wicomico Public Libraries received a $320,000 grant from the County Library Capital Grant Program to replace carpet and HVAC units, repair subflooring, and improve its public restrooms.
“The Capital Grants Program for libraries provides reimbursement funding for projects to build and repair library buildings,” she said. “Once the money is expended and a paid invoice is available, that can be submitted immediately for reimbursement. We don’t have to wait until the end of the year, or even the end of the month.”

Grants-----Tax payers money !
Kudos to the Council!
Libaries are Obsolete. I'm 17 yrs old and havent been to the libary since like Kindergarten. The Internet is all I need. Time for libaries to be shutdown.
Maybe they can buy the firehouse across the street, the city let it go for around that price. Then house the homeless and thugs that hang on the library front steps. On second thought, they would return when section out is constructed in their parking lot. Not to be negative, we have sooo much positive going around down town.
How about money to build an actual library on the east side instead of the trailer they are in with only 5 parking spots!
Thankfully something obviously useful is being done
Libraries are nothing more than Government subsidized workfare. The return is no where NEAR worth the investment. Andrea Berstler alone making 80,000$ a year + bennies is a scam! She's a thief. Chop the budget at the knees. The downtown location is a total cesspool of rodents, bugs and associated poisons they spray every week, not to mention the air quality. I would NEVER take a child there for any activity. It simply is not a safe/healthy place to be.
