That's why I am sending my child to private school. It will not be perfect but as least I can go to work with peace of mind that she is safe. Private school will not put up with all of the thugs. They will be kicked out and have to go to public school. My money will be well spent.

Yeah it's a shame. There is no winning here when it comes to schools, I can't think of one private school that actually provides a reliable education and most of the public schools are filled with thugs

My child went private for 15 years. They have their issues too. They are just as reluctant to expel/suspend a child because there's money involved, and social politics. But your child will have a smaller peer group which reduces the physical conflicts.
Why our grandkids go to private school. This behavoir is beyond the pale, these kids don't want to be there in the first place and are totally disruptive. Reform welfare and take away the out for them. When you turn 18 yor are on your own sucker. See how tough you are then dumpster diving for grub.
Set up gun towers around all public schools....all they are .....mini prisons or detention centers

For some reason I'm thinking they are black.
The school is horrendous. My daughter was pushed to the ground by 2 boys and currently has her arm in a sling. Needless to say, we will be transferring schools. The kids rule the school and get away with everything!

Kudos to Mrs. Gosnell!! My daughter told me that Mrs. Gosnell went on the school wide tv first thing this morning to make the students know that the school had been notified of the threats of fights and that if any fights took place, the students would receive the maximum days of suspension. The WCBOE knew what they were doing when they put Mrs. Gosnell at SMS. She will get SMS back on top eventually!! It will take time....Rome wasn't built in a day!

Take it from someone who has been heavily involved in wicomico county school system. Wicomico county board of Ed if you want to fix the school system this is what you MUST DO!
Make it easier for principals to get the trouble students to CHOICES.
Ok let's talk about choices, it needs to be totally revamped. Much bigger facility. Not one deputy, three deputies on site. DJJ personnel on site. A liaison from the states attorney's office on site. A Doctor to prescribe medication on site.
No more " kicking the can down the road". If the kids can not cut it at Choices, you have your DJJ and States Attorney on site to make the transition from school to incarceration happen faster.
We Have To start protecting the children who want to learn.
If you get cancer.... You cut it out! This is the attitude wicomico county board of Ed must have.

And yes it will cost money but if you ask the tax payers if they rather have one failing school or a county full of failing schools I wonder which they would pick.

Okay my daughter who is currently being bullied relentlessly said there was a fight this morning on the bus ramp right in front of her. She has no reason to lie. This school is absolutely awful! I had nothing but problems with my oldest and now constant bullying yo the point my daughter asked to do her work in the hall. Several complaints with no end result. Furious!

I have a child in this school and I think they think they are doing a great job. Let me tell you from personal experience they do not follow thru. My child has been bullied all year and still waiting for answers. My child will not be in that school next year. I visit there a lot and those kids are off the hook. right scarey. I really feel sorry for the teachers.
Good news - school year is almost over. Bad news - nothing will be done and school opens in less than 4 months. Ugh!
My daughter will not that's for sure. And it's proposterous for them to lie and say there wasn't a fight. My child says that flyer stands every Friday.

Public schools suck at giving our kids a good education. True not all private schools are that great. But I had three kids in a good private school. They tested out to two grades higher than public school. One of my kids decided to go his senior year back to public school. So when he got in the school he came to me and said "Dad these kids are dumb". He went from average grades in private school to very good grades in public school. I told him it was because he got a better education by going to private school for twelve years. So he graduated high school and now makes a good living. He makes somewhere between fifty to one hundred thousand dollars a year with no college just a high school diploma. So say what you will but public school turns out illiterate kids that can't read or write. One of the main differences I saw was more discipline in the private school. So you either pay to send your kids to a good private school or keep them in public schools so they learn how to grow up as thugs and future inmates.
It isn't teachers. It's THUGS ruining LEARNING for good kids.

SMS is the worst middle school in sailsbury. Lets hope the new superintendent gives the administration the tools to turn this school around. Ony time will tell.

Shhhhhh. Troubled kids love choices. Substituted there. No real boundaries. & they should have let bennett b the alt school. But what about the kids who stick up for themselves and get in trouble for defending themselves. I ve been told they cannot respond and have to take the beatings and abuse.
Sad and if she fights back to defends her self she ll be labled and punished. Trust it is happening. If your child doesnt have magnet or gates grades they are forced to deal w/ kids w/ 504s and mental health issues. Then they are expected to deal w/ their behavior and abuse. God forbid they respond. Then administration makes excuses, lie and talk to you like you are dumb. This started w/ the No child left behind bs. A special needs child affects the class as a whole. It is what it is. Youll start to see other kids imitate the behavior even good kids.
