Salisbury – Mayor Jake Day is pleased to announce the City Council’s approval of the Salisbury Bicycle Network Plan. This plan, which strategically increases the number of bike lanes across Salisbury, is the product of community and professional collaboration.
Bike lanes can already be seen on Riverside Drive, Camden Avenue, and Mount Hermon Road within the City. Roads receiving higher priority for the installation of new bike lanes in this plan are: East College Avenue, West College Avenue, South Division Street, Long Avenue, Glen Avenue, Beaglin Park Drive, East Main Street, West Main Street, Fitzwater Street, and Parsons Road, as well as a rail trail from Fruitland to Delmar.
Constructing bike lanes across Salisbury is expected to boost long-term economic growth for the City and its businesses. Across America, bike lanes have been shown to increase property values and enhance sales for businesses which border them.
A 2012 study by the American Public Health Association shows that the more bike lanes within a municipality, the safer roads are for bikers, walkers, and drivers—especially in areas where high volume traffic is common. Non-traditional and traditional commuters alike experience safer, easier commutes.
Mayor Day said, “When you consider the positive economic impact of increased bicycle traffic on top of the safety benefits, you can easily see why cycling should be a priority for any community that’s looking to succeed – and we are that community.”

Bike lanes in the City....What a waste of money....Plus needed a survey to recommend them... Typical politicians, look for a way to spend tax dollars. Fix the damn streets for automobile traffic, bikes will be fine on repaired and newly paved streets!!!!
Riding a bike along West Main Street, Fitzwater Street, and Parsons Road makes you an easy target for the local thugs.
Lets all give this moron a one hand clapping. How many jobs is this going to create?
yAWN
how about a thug free zone ?
are you kidding? that what he is doing with the money we got from the state?! unbelievable.
Absolutely no one uses the lanes they have now.
There is on room on E Main St for a bike lane.
It will be very entertaining to watch how this plays out.
How about a Line from the guetto to spd to the courthouse ?
Can i buy a armored bicycle?
I agree 6:01. WHY WASTE THIS MONEY On something no one will use!!! Our roads NEED REPAIR FIRST. Thats what my taxes should be used for!! Ride a freaking bike thru slumville and to WHAT the Art condos? This guy has no vision or clue what he is doing. Cart before the horse is always the librard way.
lol.
What about a safe lane for my grocery cart?
Stupid, really stupid. Bikers don't stay in the bike lanes now, so you just make more of them they won't stay in. Really? Can anyone in this town get serious about what is needed???
They painted a path on our street at considerable expense then in a few months repaved it. Then had to repaint the bike paths....@ considerable expense...presumably.
Bikers travel on sidewalks when they can. I must say, I don't blame them. It's certainly safer.
As long as I feel safe, I would make use of the rail trail from Fruitland to Delmar.
Strategically placed? Really? I thought they just put them where the roads already are.
The $ spent on bike paths could better be suited to repairing roads, getting the so called homeless people standing at the shopping centers for $ instead of getting off their butts and actually wanting work not turning it down.
With all the shit going on in the world and Jake Day is obsessing over bike paths? Shows he's completely out of touch with the rest of the world and Salisbury's place in that world. Does anyone else see something wrong with this or what?
Everyone except his chode obsessedbike club friends. But he needs their votes.
Jake Day has always needed a reality check like his actual job in the service, he wants things that high privileged wealthy people have in their areas, multiple bars, bike paths, beautification of median strips on rt 13 directly in front of the college of course. Meeting places for teenagers and the young adults. He needs to address needs not wants!
There needs to be NO BIKE roads and No Bike lanes and NO
Bike Zones in this country....
There are roads that have No room for them and it is Not
safe for them or car traffic...common sense
Even in OC MD the crazy Govt lets them ride in what is
really the BUS lane ..and says it is the Bike lane first,
before the buses ... INSANE !!!
The bike groups have gone too far and something needs to be done..........!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree with 1150. this is just garbage politics by Day & the gang because the minority rules when he depends on them to keep him elected. It's stupidity. If people want to ride their bikes, then follow the rules of the road. Simple. common sense for people who use their brains.
There are clearly roads with No room for bikes
If a person on one were to fall over in traffic > they would
be killed.....The Govt should be held responsible for
any incidents occuring in the areas they Approve !!!
Mt Hermon Rd in Salisbury is a good example of what should be a NO Bike Zone ...right where the idiots just put in
bike lanes....were traffic is too heavy and no room for them
If anything happens there the City,County,And State should
be SUED !!!
They have Never even thought of the idea of having
NO Bike Zone signs put up ....all they do is cater to
the bike crazed groups who have no common sense for their
own Safety !!! They also are selfish and think they have
Priority over other vehicle traffic...(NOT happening)
Ocean City needs to Put No Bike signs in the Damn Bus Lanes
or when anything happens, then the city should be SUED !!
Don't blame the poor bus drivers either...Not their fault !!
The Lanes ARE Bus lanes.......NOT Bike Lanes !!! DUGH
Blame the politically correct A-holes for such stupid rules
and laws .......
Wrong people in charge !!
I'll second that!
Instead of a Bike Plan / it should be a Bike BAN !!!
