ROCKVILLE AND ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND, Last evening, during the 29th Annual Maryland Policy and Leadership Dinner, the Technology Council of Maryland, Inc. (TCM) and the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council (CRTC) announced a merger of the two organizations, effective immediately. The merger is designed to expand and regionalize Maryland’s technology and life science hubs, while also creating a consistent, unified voice for the industries statewide and a platform to attract more companies and leverage synergies.
“This is an exciting and obvious next step for our region—bringing together two powerhouse councils under one roof to benefit the tech and life science industries in our region,” said Tech Council of Maryland Chairman Rene B. LaVigne, President & Chief Executive Officer, Iron Bow Technologies. “We believe this will propel Maryland to become one of the elite hubs in the country for the life science and technology industries. We also believe that together, we will create a larger technology footprint in the region.”
The councils have rebranded as the “Maryland Tech Council,” and a new visual identity was also unveiled during the dinner. The merger will provide the combined organization with a stronger influential legislative presence, as it will now represent more than 250,000 Maryland voters.
Commented Governor Larry Hogan, “The merger of these two organizations shows the collective strength and impact of Maryland’s tech sector, which is growing every day with new startups and expansions by our companies. Our administration will continue to work closely with these industry leaders to create jobs and advance the innovation, technology, and life science sectors across Maryland.”
Former CRTC Executive Director Tami Howie has been name the Chief Executive Officer of the MTC.
“The formation of the Maryland Tech Council by this merger represents the tremendous collaboration and desire to strengthen the innovation ecosystem in the Maryland business community,” said Chesapeake Regional Tech Council Chairman Jason Silva,
President and CTO, ByteGrid. “I am excited to help drive the growth, and I am very pleased that Tami will continue the leadership that she has so capably delivered for the CRTC Board and stakeholders.”

While both organizations were great successes, the strategic union will expand the region and create a unified voice statewide. I will work diligently to address the needs of the members, and – with their help – will position Maryland as a top U.S. technology and life science center.”
