White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Wednesday the Trump administration will direct the government to identify federal money that it can withhold to punish "sanctuary cities" — a term used to describe up to 300 communities that have policies protecting the nation's 11 million undocumented immigrants from deportation.
In what could become a major conflict between President Trump and local governments, the showdown on "sanctuary cities" likely will result in legal challenges testing how far the White House can go in dictating its priorities.
Trump will be armed with a range of powerful options, including federal lawsuits and the power to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in grants that states and cities rely on.
"The Trump administration can largely get the results it is seeking and a real meaningful end to most of these sanctuary policies through a combination of carrots and sticks," said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, who has advised the Trump transition team on its immigration enforcement options. "The point is not to go around whacking all these little cities and counties, it's to get them to do the right thing. And for the die-hards, to confront them."

He also needs to put some real teeth into violating the law, arrest the city officials that don't comply!
Illegals are committing crimes by being here. Government officials or ANYONE else that aids and abets the commission of crimes should be held criminally responsible
He should defund all of California.
Trump needs to make sure Baltimore is on this list along with Montgomery County in MD.
Illegal is illegal. This has nothing to do with immigration. We want you here if you do it the right way.
Damn, my good man is aging fast. Got a concerned look, which is good I guess.
Trump has learned a "great" deal from his predecessor, and his predecessor's use of executive orders. Just for one, Obama threatened to withhold federal funds from states that did not go along with his screwball bathroom plan. So Trump is right on mark to do the same with states, or cities, that refuse to comply with federal regulations. Heck, the precedent goes back to the seventies when states were coerced into complying with seat belt use and the 55 mile per hour national speed limit. It was the threat of loss of highway funds that got states to comply. Now we are going to get to see if Rahm Emanuel is willing to give up BILLIONS in federal aid to Chicago, so that he can protect illegals immigrants in Illinois. I wonder how many of those illegal immigrants in Chicago voted for Rahm for Mayor?
Shut them down, President Trump. We do not want those illegals in OUR country.
