A Viewer Writes; BOOM!

What the heck just happened? I heard a loud boom and my whole house shook. It sounded like an explosion. I live in Hebron and a friend of mine in Salisbury said he heard it too.

Yeah heard in Hebron on crooked oak! Sounded like an explosion.

Felt heard near Hebron also. A friend of a friend felt it near wor-wic. That's not possible from a sonic boom, right?

Felt in Willards and our house shook also

Sheriffs dept. said it was heard in Fruitland as well. I ran outside (live off of Old Ocean City Road near Moss Hill) and heard jets flying over, so probably military exercises and they had the throttle pushed a little too far forward.

I live close to Fruitland. What the hell was that?

Same here in Delmar De, shook the house, some friends said it was a sonic boom. ??

Anonymous said...

I'll second the house rocking in Salisbury

Cops say no one has called anything in other than the loud boom.
But eluded to a "jet" that was overhead.
We are on the E Side of the bury and heard and felt it too.
And there was the sound of a plane overhead..

Heard in Fruitland , scanner keeps going if a people thinking there houses are getting broken in to..

Was herd and felt in Whaleyville also, wondering what it was.

Sonic boom

Fighter jet flying from wallops to Dover broke sound barrier causing sonic boom.

PAX NAS jet. Most likely F-35 and he was just having fun. Was a weekly occurrence in the 70's when they still bombed the target ship and Bloodsworth Island. The good ole days when this area had plenty of fish, oysters and deer for everyone and a lack of DNR and come heres.

Shook my house in Salisbury!

Anonymous said...

Heard it in Gumboro

Anonymous said...

Berlin too

Anonymous said...

Laurel DE too. Friend in Harbeson heard it too

Anonymous said...

Felt it also. It rattled the windows

Anonymous said...

We felt the same thing in Delmar. It was similar to a sonic boom from jets during the airshow.

Believe me, I lived in the California desert for 19 years right under the DoD's high speed corridor (R-2508), I guarantee that was a sonic boom. Heard hundreds and hundreds of them and the one tonight, with its characteristic double boom, was a sonic boom - just like old times ;)

Man It was Santa Clause trying out his new sleigh with 12 reindeer

Hurlock
How could it traVel that far ??

Anonymous said...

It was Rosie McDonald falling down on the tarmac on the way to Canada.

Just talked to my daughter in Calvert County. They heard the loud boom, and it also shook their house.

Anonymous said...

Was it the good sheriff rocking their world?

Anonymous said...

Sonic boom from Berlin to Hebron. That doesn't sound plausible. Shook my house in East SBY hard.

Negative Ghost Rider the pattern is full!

I saw a larger plane being flanked by two jet fighters on either side flying North and climbing altitude and making a long left loop eventually heading Southwest and disappeared. Twenty minutes later, Boom. After I ran outside, I saw two fighters mid altitude moving fast towards Dover out of the southwest and 2 minutes lat, 2 more jets, higher altitude and slower, coming out of the southwest and towards Dover.

I must have slept through it

Anonymous said...

I think these things are cool lol

Without the come heres Salisbury would have dried up and blown away by now. Ya'll lazy.

Anonymous said...

No way it traveled 30/40 miles.

Anonymous said...

Heard for 40 miles ?

Anonymous said...

I was in my yard with my dog just west of Salisbury at that time and heard jet aircraft in the area (not uncommon). It was a sonic boom. They used to occur more frequently but not so often in recent years/

Anonymous said...

How can a sonic boom be heard in such a broad area?

Anonymous said...

Guess my ole dwelling is made out of good stock. Heard nuttin' near Civic Center in Salisbury. Lights flickering a little not long after dark.

Anonymous said...

Cryoseism?

Anonymous said...

It was TRUMP#1 flexing its muscle for January 2017.....get out of DC Obama!!

Anonymous said...

Sounded like freedom.

9:14 PM: Salisbury was doing just fine before. Y a'll ruined it when you came here.

Anonymous said...

It was a guy that had information that could send Hillary Clinton to prison for a long time, he is no longer on this earth.

Anonymous said...

Heard it in Salisbury out by Upper Ferry.

Anonymous said...

It was a one of Piedmonts Airlines Dash-8 SBY to PHL.

Y'all better head for your safe spaces. Jets breaking the sound barrier were once a common thing on the shore. With the right weather conditions, the shock wave can travel 30 + miles.

Ground width of the boom exposure area is approximately 1 statute mile (1.6 km) for each 1,000 feet (300 m) of altitude (the width is about five times the altitude); that is, an aircraft flying supersonic at 30,000 feet (9,100 m) will create a lateral boom spread of about 30 miles (48 km).

Sonic Boom from a Dash-8.

Anonymous said...

lol I like it

Everything west of Rt13 in Wicomico County sits right under R-4006.

Anonymous said...

People still listen to scanners? In 2016? Unbelieveable.

Anonymous said...

it was Hillary after being spoon fed her oatmeal

Anonymous said...

2:37. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

I think it was the democrats hitting rock bottom after finally coming to terms that Trump is president!

Anonymous said...

the sound of freedom! give it a rest, just flight tests of the f35. enjoy! and expect to hear more!

Anonymous said...

Hillary face planting the curb.

Anonymous said...

That was Donald pulling the DC swamp drain plug earlier than anticipated !

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

It was old man winter gittin his whip ready. Its brrrrrrrr cold this morning!

Anonymous said...

It was the Secret Service test driving Trump's new presidential Cadillac !

Anonymous said...

Scary. Sounds and feels like a tree fell on your house.

Anonymous said...

My new chevy pick up kicking into over drive.

Anonymous said...

I saw three fighter jets patrolling the area yesterday afternoon. You know, the super fast kind, not the slow WartHogs. Obviously military exercises were being conducted.

Anonymous said...

Dash 8's are turbo-props not jets.

Anonymous said...

F-14! Love it! I have a really cool picture I want to attach. How do I do it?

Anonymous said...

Mmmm , as some of you older people know these explosions or Booms were pretty frequent years ago , the Naval air bass is across the bay and flies over a lot having said that it was a sonic boom .

Anonymous said...

7:37 pm.
It's "alluded." "Eluded" means to escape or avoid. They sound alike: two totally different words.

Anonymous said...

An extensive area suggests a sonic boom at a high altitude like 50,000 feet.Had it occurred at say 25,000 feet the boom wouldn't have been heard nearly as far.

Anonymous said...

Kim Jung Un is probably conducting military exercises off the Atlantic coast.

Anonymous said...

Not as scary as 2-3 thugs kicking your door in during a home invasion robbery.....I'll the the sonic boom any day. It is amazing for how many republicans there are, how many people are scared of a loud noise. Must not be hunters or shooters.
