Salisbury News Pays It Forward For Christmas

Today I delivered a check on behalf of Salisbury News paying off ALL outstanding meal accounts for every (28) school in Wicomico County.

We want every hard working family to enjoy a Very Merry Christmas with one less thing to worry about.  It is our hope this may lighten their load.

If you are anything like me, we grew up broke. I don't think you ever forget standing in the lunch line and getting to the cashier knowing you owed a lot of money and what they were about to say to you in front of other kids.

Each year we try to do something special during the Holidays and quite frankly, it doesn't get any better then this.

We want to thank all of the advertisers here on Salisbury News for supporting us so that we may continue to Pay It Forward to our communities.

We want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas from all of us at Salisbury News.

Great!

That goes a long way. You surely are one of the very few left that walk the walk and talk the talk. Keep up the excellent media coverage and happy holidays to you and family.

but, but
Is this here another example of that there fake news?
Cuz just the utter day I was reading the internet and it said right there that old (ok somewhat mature), financially accomplished, white dudes are greedy and anything but charitable with their blessings
Does this mean I cant trust the internet now?

I am a working single mother with 3 kids in the school system. My daughter didn't eat today because she didn't have enough money on her account ($1.45) is all she had. This is an issue that a lot of people don't think about. It costs almost $45 per week to feed my children school lunch and packing lunch sounds good in theory but sometimes it's hard to keep enough food to do this with. THANK YOU for your kindness and compassion...

Hey Joe,

Nice work... I see you're gaining a pound or two these days. They always say the camera adds a few pounds LOL!

Anyway, I hope you and your family have a great Christmas. Your good friend A. T.

Give me a ring sometime, my number is still the same. God Bless.

Don't know you, never met you. One of these days I'll shake your hand. Good on ya, Joe.

I've heard of some people going in and paying for one school. To think you did this for 28 schools is remarkable. May god bless you Mr. Albero. Merry Christmas.

Joe, There is no question that this kind and generous amount you took care of is in the thousands of dollars. Your generosity is astounding especially considering you are certainly entitled to take those advertiser payments and put that money in your pocket.

At one time I was involved with school lunch accounting, and I know there are many, many kids who get behind and either don't apply or aren't eligible for federal free meals. Imagine showing up for lunch hungry and not sure you will be served. Imagine the cafeteria workers having to turn down students or give them not what they put on their lunch trays but instead thin, stale PB&J sandwiches with tap water to drink.

Your generosity has made for many, many happy families this holiday season. I can almost hear the sighs of relief from single mothers, divorced families, laid off dads, abused mothers, grandmothers raising grandkids, and yes, even those parents who really don't give a damn about their kids'hunger.

My educated guess is your lunch pay-off was a donation of about $ 2,500 - Enough to buy yourself, Jen and Gavin a lot of very nice Christmas gifts.

I love that instead you chose to pay it forward, one more time. I know you to be a quiet, incredibly generous giver. May God continue to Bless richly for all the "Secret Santa" things you do throughout the year.

Those of us who really know Joe well, know that he does many generous acts of kindness that no one ever hears about. He swears us to secrecy. Joe Albero is a very good man with a big heart. We are so happy that the public has gotten a little peak into this man's heart. Well done, my friend.

Joe, as one of your advertisers and fellow Deplorable, your acts of kindness are truly what makes me proud to be called your friend. And, I also know that this is not the only thing you do throughout the year many times over. Thank you for being my friend. It's a treasure I hold every day.

The difference between you and E.B.T. blogger is you give back while he's trying to figure out a way to take from someone. Good work Joe.

Wow. I wish I could have done that. Maybe one day!

Why isn't this all over the local news. Thank you Joe.

God bless you, Joe. Truly generous thing to do. Best to you and your family for the holidays.

Oh, my goodness...what a wonderful thing to do! In Wicomico County, students are not supposed to be refused lunch regardless of what might be owed on their account. However, when the amount reaches a certain point, all they are given is a cheese sandwich. Even the little ones are embarrassed when this happens. God bless you for helping these families!

Please let people know that an application for free or reduced meals can be completed and submitted any time during the school year. If you didn't qualify in September but your situation has changed, you may qualify now. It hurts nothing to apply!

Merry Christmas, Joe. This made me cry. As does every time you find a lost pet and the owner is relieved and overjoyed.

AWESOME !!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

12/16 4:45. Advertisers pay SBY NEWS and receive a product/service for their dollars. What joe does- and did - with his dollars are at his prerogative. Your week analogy doesn't work here. Did you know that republicans give much more to charity than democrats? Did you know that, here on the conservative part of MD, our chapter of the United Way-as it is with many other charities- has the highest donation rate per capita of any other chapter. So, unless you have something substantive to add - and not just to berate individual generosity - shut the f*#* up!

Anonymous said...

Great job, you put your money where it really did some good.We too often forget the families that are trying to do their best, yet fall behind. God will reward you. Too many charities pay their leaders too much money that does not go to the needy, just makes them rich off the backs of the ones trying to help.

Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

Why Wicomico? instead of Delmar or Worcester?

JoeAlbero said...

2:17, My first call was to Delmar. The Principal was in the process of finding out how much was outstanding and while he was doing that, someone came in and offered to pay the outstanding balance.

Believe it or not, it wasn't easy trying to get the right contacts to find out how much was owed in Wicomico County. Fortunately a good friend was able to make the right contacts as I wanted this to be done last week.

While I have rejected some pretty idiotic comments here and I'm sure you can easily guess who the one major nay sayer is, he demanded to know why I exposed what I had done and said a better man would have done it and remained anonymous.

There are a couple reasons why I chose to expose what had been done. One, each parent and child needed to know their balances were completely paid up. Considering the BOE Staff won't be in the office for a couple weeks, it would be weeks before they knew their debts had been paid.

Christmas is in a week and we wanted to make sure there was extra funds available to them in the hope of delivering a better Christmas.

JoeAlbero said...

As for your question about Worcester County, Wicomico residents are in far worse shape for starters. Secondly, I LEFT THAT COUNTY FOR YOU.

Joe: In my experience, wealthy people who grew up poor and rose up out of it are way more generous than those wealthy people who were "born into" their wealth. On behalf of those kids, thank you for giving.

Joe, This is awesome... I am glad to see at least one person paying it forward and not being selfish as I see other people with money do!!!!! It is great to see, that you are taken care of, and what is left, you share with the people in need, what other people whom have lots of money, give away their own money?? NO one, that is who!!!! Others will says they do, and that is how you know it is a lie, they are just looking for the glorification of doing a good deed, which in turn takes away the good deed, because most people do it for a photo op or recognition...
