Macy's announced the closures Thursday. They represent about 15% of all Macy's department stores. The iconic retailer did not disclose the locations of stores, but said most of them will be shut down in early 2017.
The Macy's move is the latest in a wave of store closures amid the rise and success of Amazon and other online shopping options.
For instance, Walmart announced plans in January to shut down 269 stores this year and just this week, inked a $3.3 billion deal to acquire Amazon rival Jet.com.
Sports Authority, once the nation's largest sporting goods retailer, is shutting all 450 of its stores after filing for bankruptcy. Other traditional retailers such as Target, JC Penney, Kmart, Sears and Kohl's have also pulled the plug on hundreds of stores in recent months.

Won't be surprised if one of them is the Macy's in Salisbury. The mall is usually dead on the weekdays and not much activity on the weekends anymore. Sears too! Don't know how they make enough to pay expenses and then make payroll!
If corporate America wants government out of its business then maybe it should keep its nose out of politics!
It's actually got nothing to do with Obama, go figure. On line and internet sales are where the shift in retail has been going for years.
Each time I visit the Macy's at Christiana Mall, they are always busy and have a nice selection of clothing so not sure 506PM if it is all about the on line and internet sales. Salisbury, for one is a dying town and the only thing it has going for it is Salisbury University!
Without that, it would be totally dead!
No 5:06 it because people around here don't have much disposable incomes anymore. Malls in other areas are much busier. It's very unfortunate but this is a Walmart area and not a mall area.
These are those "Shovel Ready Jobs" Osama promised us: shoveling in the dirt to the holes after the closed down businesses are demolished.

It has everything to do with the White House and their economic decisions. They raising taxes, lowing wages and raising cost of insurance model doesn't work anymore. Pensions haven been this low in 12 years real estate have never bounced back. List goes on... What you should say is obama has made terrible Financial situations based on poor advisement. But you Clinton supports can't do that instead make excuses. Please spare me with the fake numbers and models all endorsed by White House.
Rea estate never bounced back? Oh wait, it didn't in this part of the country. There is a real estate boom going on elsewhere. Many people missed it because they didn't have access to $ to buy when prices were low. The eastern shore is dead and it doesn't matter who the next president is. No one is going to revive this area.

You may or may not be right. However I know I have not bought anything from them since. I even cut up the credit card I had with them.
They can make more money making people pay for shipping. Some don't have time or won't ship items that don't fit back to them.
It wouldn't surprise me if the one in Salisbury closed. The rent is so high man stores have moved out of the mall.
when the centre closes, will they grind it up into a pile of rubble and leave it like the old Salisbury mall - its a very attractive look
