West Salisbury Juniors going to the Little League World Series 8-11-16

In the past month, the West Salisbury (WS) Junior team spent about a week in Maugansville Maryland (near Hagerstown) participating in the MD state tournament. The boys went undefeated winning the MD state title, outscoring their opponents 54-5. In the past week, the boys have been in Freehold Township New Jersey participating in the East Regional Tournament, competing against ten state champions from Delaware to Maine. Representing Maryland, WS swept the winner's bracket of the tournament going 5-0, winning the East Region title. In the championship game yesterday, WS and the New Jersey state champion played 12 innings and about 3 1/2 hours of ball, with WS getting an epic 7-6 win.

Now, the boys who practice and play on Pemberton Drive are heading to Taylor Michigan for the Junior LL World Series. In Michigan, the WS boys are one of the final five juniors teams remaining in the US tournament.

Tonight (Thursday August 11th) at 6pm at West Salisbury Little League on Pemberton Drive, there will be a send-off celebration to wish the kids and coaches a safe and fun journey. The community is welcomed to attend.

Is it true this team actually added a few players from Fruitland LL to make this run? If so, wouldn't that be a violation of International LL rules; same as what happened with the Chicago area team a few years back? If not, then congratulations to West Salisbury and good luck in the WS.

Is this the same group of kids who received so many negative comments with regards to raising funds! Congratulations and bring home the title!

That is awesome! Congratulations to the boys, Coaches and Families of these remarkable young men!

WOW!!!!!! CONGRATS TO THE WEST SALISBURY TEAM AND THEIR COACHES!!!!! WE ARE ALL SO PROUD OF YOU BOYS, MAKE SALISBURY PROUD!!!!

It's nice that these kids were able to beg enough money to go west of the bay bridge before they are totally brained washed into believing the world is flat.

It IS a violation of little league rules. It's supposedly ok if the league didn't have enough players but apparently both leagues had enough and several kids at west Salisbury were overlooked for the four from fruitland but I guess the parents got what they wanted 10 minutes of fame

It is within legal rights if Fruitland was unable to Charter a team due to lack of Interest therefore they were able to join with another Little League it is quite legit thank you very much

I have seen the comments before about Fruitland kids on the West team. First, if Fruitland didn't offer a team in this age group then my guess is that some Fruitland players with West ALL SEASON. The rules in this case can be waived with proper paperwork. Second, the new rules state that if you attend a school within the boundaries of the league, you can play in that league. My thoughts are that this is just about a Fruitland player being chosen for All-Stars over yours. I know it sucks, but the reality is, no rules were probably broken. The District is pretty good about dotting i's and crossing t's.

Your title is misleading for folks who do not follow the LLWS. This is not the world series in Williamsport, this is the division below that, well the ages over lap, but this is NOT the big game on tv and such. I am not discounting their accomplishment, just setting the record straight.

Anonymous said...

It is the Junior League World Series put on by Little League International. The junior division is actually older than the major division it is not below it it is above it but thanks for setting the record straight.

11:56 Says: I paid for my children's sports activities and equipment without standing in the median and begging. Sorry that some of you are offended by being successful and responsible.

Anonymous said...

3:58...actually the title was accurate, and you are trying to discount their accomplishments. Let's not sugarcoat your intent here.

I'm always amazed that there are some people out there, who feel it necessary to denigrate others. Just be happy for someone else's successes, and wish them luck.

Come on people it's a game. The moral decay of society all around you speaks volumes on how selfish and arrogant this whole situation is that you manipulate a rule to FORM what you parents and so called leaders felt would ultimately get you to Michigan. Well congrats you accomplished your goal, how exactly is it helping out society as a whole??

Anonymous said...

Yup!!

The one televised is 12 year olds and that championship is played in Williamsport. These are 13 year olds and that championship is played in Michigan. Go drink some more fluoridated water and go watch Maury

They are what you call haters or typical eastern shore crabs in a bucket

Anonymous said...

You should actually check the rules. If that age division is not available in their hometown they're banned from playing? These are all stars that played at west Salisbury and were selected from several teams. Get a life hater

Anonymous said...

HATE is such a strong word, strongly dislike absolutely!!! West salisbury little league is everything that is wrong with youth sports!! From the top all the way down to parents and kids an ignorant cocky arrogance that sports and baseball is something more than the reality it being a child's game and as the levels progress in today's society mere form of entertainment. Parents let me know when your kids get a little older if one of them finds a cure for aids or cancer or maybe a solution to the water crisis in parts of Colorado and new Mexico where people don't even have the priviledge of abundant water, right here in US. You people act like merely winning a ball game is such a great accomplishment when there are dozens of kids dying daily from cancer or 20 or more veterans a day committing suicide so you pompous asses can brag about a baseball game

It's sad when parents allow their family's lives to actually become the sports their children participate in, when the kids grow up mom and dad are lost, don't know what to do. It would be amazing to see this kind of effort put into something other than sports. Society worships an athlete but you can't even get people to want to teach in your school systems anymore. Yea priorities are definitely not where they should be

omg, people participate in kids sports program, show their kids support and encouragement, show them positive activities, and many more good things and YOU want to criticize, accuse, put down, and discourage all that in any way possible? What the heck is wrong with you?

Kids need more of this type of support. Would you rather them hanging out on street corners dealing drugs and other criminal and destructive activities?

Get a life bum and stay away from these GOOD people.

WOW!!! Didn't realize west salisbury allowed such sexually promiscuous couples to lead children's athletic programs. Just a swinging !!!

OMG! Really? Even if your childish accusations have even the smallest of merit, what does anyone's private life have to do with this team? Are they having sex with the players? Are they negatively influencing the players?

Your moral indignation is noted. Personally, I don't know anyone's sexual preferences, nor do I care to. How you are privy to such information is anyone's guess. Did you approach either party with a proposition and get rejected? Just what is your axe you are trying to grind?

And since this team has made it to the World Series, it seems to me that this team has been led quite successfully.

Maybe you can stomp those sour grapes and make some wine. Have a glass. Maybe it will do you some good.

I could care less about your people's opinions but I pkated in county men's softball and witnessed it first hand good old "Captain" promiscuous in action!!! You people act like you're a bunch of Saints and have more skeletons in the closet than most

I for one have no idea what you are talking about and I don't really care. If you feel something was done that was inappropriate, illegal or whatever, there must be someone you can go tell besides posting vague accusations about unnamed people and unspecified actions.

Personally I think there is more to it than what you are saying. Or maybe you are someone from one of the losing teams? Don't know, don't care. Have a nice day.

West 4 - east (west salisbury little league) 1

Politics in baseball well that is nothing new. Lets just wish them luck in their adventure.

From what I understand Fruitland had 8 players signed up and couldve fielded a team with some effort. They didn't want to do it cuz West was waiting for the all stars from Fruitland.

No if you don't want to confuse everyone it's Hawaii(Western Regional Champs) 4 - Maryland(West Salisbury - Eastern Regional Champs) 1

And to shorten that it would be Hawaii 4 - Maryland 1. No confusion now.

Yes this is exactly what happened. Fruitland Little League had Elijah Reddish, Max Taylor, Brandon Scholl and Drew Von Kollmar and the West Salisbury Junior League Team. This is perfectly legal because Fruitland didn't have enough players to make a team. So if a League doesn't have enough players to make a team they typically send them to another league. Fruitland only had 9 or so players sign up during early Registration so some of the parents got to thinking about what would be best for their kids so they worked out something with Kristen Wheatley and West Salisbury to add those 9 players to West to make 3 teams. What happened last year was Fruitland didn't have enough players and neither did East Wicomico Junior League so they combined both Junior Leagues and came up with more than enough players for 2 teams that fell under Fruitland Little League. This year the same thing happened and apparently a couple people from Fruitland didn't want their kids playing with the kids from East Wicomico Little League so they worked out a deal with West Salisbury and sent their kids over to West to play with their boys who have had some good luck for the last 3 or so years. One of those parents from Fruitland Little League who didn't want their kids playing with the kids from East Wicomico just happens to be in Taylor Michigan watching his son play on the West Salisbury all-stars. How Ironic was that! So the bottom line is that some Fruitland Little League parents think their kids are too good to play with East Wicomico kids. Now there are a lot of East parents extremely pissed off at Fruitland Little League and I am one of them.

Here's the deal. All Junior League players and Senior League players that are any good are usually playing high school ball so they can't start playing for several weeks after the younger little league players because they are still playing high school ball and their coaches don't want them to play and they can't play. Because of that the kids playing high school ball wait before they sign up. That is why most little leagues extend their Registrations later for the Junior and Senior Leaguers. Fruitland Little League had already had 9 players sign up and those 9 players were not in high school or playing high school ball yet. If Fruitland would have waited or made some reminder phone calls they would have had enough for 3 or 4 kids if they would have allowed East Wicomico Little League to play with them again. For some reason, the powers to be in Fruitland wanted to rush things and give their kids to West Salisbury Little League.

They are not from Salisbury???? DUH! They are from Fruitland, Hebron, Bivalve, and Mardela. West Salisbury Little Leagues field isn't even in the City of Salisbury, Hence WEST SALISBURY!! By the way how much money did the City of Salisbury give the all-star team since you want them to "Make Salisbury Proud?"

Part of this is correct. Yes the 4 players from Fruitland that made the team allowed 4 dedicated West Salisbury players get cut from the all start team. I heard some parents were upset and they should be.

It was legal, but unethical. Fruitland Little League was reported last year for more unethical behavior and was reported to Little League International by our team parents due to their multiple unethical actions. Due to that investigation by Little League International Fruitland Little League lost its Charter.

It is a shame, my son has played for WLL since he was 8 and has been on alot of All Star teams there, now with the influx of FLL players he wasn't selected to play with his teammates of past years, heart broken.
The FLL should put forth a little effort to field at least 1 team.

Anonymous said...

1:48: Not true, you are misinformed or blatantly lying. The 12 year old age group fielded a team...therefore their charter HAD to have been in place.

All star teams are established year to year. Its not a given.
