The fight to raise the minimum wage is headed to the doorstep of the Democratic National Convention, with local airport workers planning to go on strike when delegates descend upon Philadelphia next week.
Roughly 1,000 workers, including those who handle luggage, attend to passengers in wheelchairs and clean plane cabins, are expected to not show up for work in order to call attention to their demands for a $15 minimum wage and the ability to join the Service Employees International Union.
No specific date has been chosen. "It could be a one-day strike. It could be protracted,'' SEIU spokesman Marc Goumbri said, adding that a majority of the workers voted for the action on July 12. "But it’s going to occur while delegates are in Philadelphia" for the Democratic National Convention.
The work stoppage is the latest in a flurry of protests, rallies and walkouts staged at airports across the U.S., and is part of a broader movement by low-wage workers in industries ranging from child care to food service to boost pay to at least $15 an hour.

Yes strike! If it weren't for the democrats importing in workers the luggage handlers, etc would already be making more than 15 bucks an hours. Too many butts and not enough seats keep wages low.
I hate that airport, their employees are jerks.
I have gotten stuck there several times.
Rudest people I have ever met.
Beyond stupid but par for the Democratic course of workers go ahead
Who cares? ?? Let them!!! AGAIN! ! THEY ONLY HURT THEMSELVES. Another useless union who take care of the bums who won't come to work. Won't work when they are there. Screw up constantly but can't be fired because they are union.
That is a very rude bunch at the Philly airport, I really hate that place. I try like crazy to avoid that place when flying.
Jokes on them!
Socialist Democrats are the party of the wealthy; they'll come by private jet and will never see the inside of the terminal.
Democrat mayors in Philly for many, many years. The 'man' is who they routinely vote for!
