actually, all maps consider anything under pennsylvania as being in the south.Living in wilmington, de and hearing that i'm a southerner being from the first state irritates me to no end, but that's just how it is. maybe i should "identify" as being from the north to make it so.
I had this argument with several classmates when I was in college in PA. We are south of the Mason-Dixon line (both of them), we are in an area that had slaves, and many of the people that lived here at the time fought for the Confederacy. No one argues that Virginia is from the South because they seceded. Maryland only stayed in the Union for political reasons.

What does "from the South" even mean?
Relative. Alabama sees us as Yankees. Maine sees us as being Southern.
