NR 6/27/16 Somerset Chesapeake Boats Fire

SOMERSET COUNTY, MD (6/27/16) -- A team of investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal are currently working to determine the origin and cause for a muti-alarm fire at Chesapeake Boats Inc. located at 5030 Crisfield Highway in Crisfield.

The fire was first discovered at 2:19 PM in the front office by employees who quickly called 911. Nearly 70 firefighters responded from every station in Somerset County as well as Worcester and Accomack, VA and controlled the blaze within 2 1/2 hours. No injuries were reported during the incident. The estimated 18,500 commercial business is considered a complete loss.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Investigation Unit as well as an agency K9 team assisted; which is standard operating procedure for any large scale incident. Current loss damage estimate to the structure and contents is 10 million dollars.
