There was never a person named Lynyrd Skynyrd. That was the bands name. The singer who died was Ronnie Van Zant. His brother Johnny later became the vocalist for the band.

That's also like how so many people think there is a person named Jethro Tull. It is also just a band name and the primary singer/writer/owner of the band is Ian Anderson.

There was a person named Jethro Tull, a famous English agriculturalist. He was 200 years dead when the band took his name.

We're not old, we're refined. Aged like a fine brandy or expensive bottle of wine. Age is just a number! And PS: I still listen to Guns n' Roses and damn proud of it!

That is true and a great piece of trivia but I meant that there was no one in the band with that name. Also for clarification there was a person named Leonard Skinner who was some of the bands Phys Ed teacher that they used as inspiration for the bands name but no one in the actual band was named Lynyrd Skynyrd.
