Loophole Allows People to Receive Disability and Unemployment at the Same Time

(CNSNews.com) – The Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) comptroller general testified at a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing Wednesday that the federal government can save over $1 billion over a few years if it closes a loophole that allows people who receive disability benefits to also receive unemployment benefits at the same time.

“You mentioned potentially saving billions on the Social Security disability payments. Will you tell us about what needs to be done in that area?” Rep. John Duncan (R-Tenn.) asked GAO Comptroller General Gene Dodaro.

Another example of your government hard at corruption. Unemployment AND disability at the same time? Thought the whole point of unemployment was for people who were not employed and looking for work. Disability was supposedly for people who were unable to work any longer due to some illness or physical limitations. The system is now not even trying to hide their corruption from voters because after all, your vote doesn't count anyway. Right?

if someone is disabled he deserves his disability check but to be drawing unemployment checks at the same time?????? what a flaw in the system most gov't workers are only worried about collecting their next paycheck and look the other way when the uncover a flaw in the system the good ol boy approach you scratch my back,i will return the favor, meanwhile filling their pockets and offshore accounts with taxpayer's money the american people have been bullshitted for so long and are so docile they won't even take the time to vote AND they still bitch

Disability benefits are reduced if a disabled person is able to work at all. I'm sure they stay reduced while that person receives unemployment benefits as well. If they are laid off they should be eligible just like other workers.

1220 that's quite an 'assumption' are you in the know or are you speculating? Are you saying it's okay to receive both?

Just goes to show you, government is clueless as to what is happening. One hand does not know what the other hand is doing. No checks and balances. With this computer age everything in government should be cross referenced. No wonder we are in so much debt.
