I just adore how they're not recommended for children under 6. But, it was ok for 6 year olds to smoke.... Hmmm.
There was noting wrong with these. They did not contain tobacco. They were herbal. Was the 19th century equivalent of an inhaler.
8:44 is correct. They contained herbs that caused bronchodilation and made breathing easier. The main ingredient was Atorpine which is derived from the belladonna plant. Atropine is used today in numerous pharmaceuticals.
