Sheriff responds to fundraiser-crasher on Facebook: 'See you soon'

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A man who said he crashed a fundraising event in a post on Facebook received a response from the county sheriff.

Police say Sean Eric Kovalick Jr. posted on Facebook on Jan. 29 that he was enjoying the free beer and shrimp at a fundraiser, which he guessed was for a politician. According to a screenshot provided by police, the post's privacy was set to "public."

The next day Kovalick received the following reply:

"That was a bad play for you, Mr. Kovalick, last night at Michael's 8th Avenue. Thanks for posting your confession. This is Sheriff Ron Bateman and that was MY fundraiser that you stole from. I will stop by your house in the next day or two. See you soon."

It sounds to me like it was Sheriff Ron Bateman who needed to change his party status to private. If someone could just wander in off the street and start eating shrimp and drinking beer and they have no idea who's event it is, I'm going to put that on the event organizer.
Similar thing happened when I lived in Maine. Two guys got into Martha Stewarts place up there by telling staff they worked for her property in another state. They were taken on a tour of the home but when their lie was discovered the police were called and they were arrested on trespassing.
If there is no signage that says what is going on, no one checking names or reservations and your able to walk in and out freely you should not be able to be charged with trespassing or theft. Only if you are asked to leave and don't.
