The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not represent our advertisers

It is the job of the Fourth Estate to act as a check and a restraint on the others, to illumine the dark corners of Ministries, to debunk the bureaucrat, to throw often unwelcome light on the measures and motives of our rulers. ‘News’, as Hearst once remarked, ‘is something which somebody wants suppressed: all the rest is advertising’. That job is an essential one and it is bound to be unpopular; indeed, in a democracy, it may be argued that the more unpopular the newspapers are with the politicians the better they are performing their most vital task.
– Brian R. Roberts from a October 29, 1955 article in the London periodical “Time & Tide”
A newspaper is a device for making the ignorant more ignorant and the crazy crazier.
– H.L. Mencken
If you really want to know how weak Hillary Clinton is as a candidate, you merely have to appreciate that the U.S. media essentially acts as her own personal PR firm, yet the public still recognizes her as a dishonest crook. Brace yourself for the following story, it’s huge.

Please. This has been going on since the dawn of time, it's just now, the news media is more biased than in the past. They wear their favorites on their sleeves. Look at Megyn Kelly for a prime example. Hard to have respect for a supposed news anchor who poses in a g-string and bra for a man's magazine. Don't recall Walter Cronkite every wearing a g-string for a spread for Cosmo.

Back to the subject, most of America didn't know about FDR's inability to walk, his life long affair with Lucy Mercer or Eleanor's homosexuality. The press provided cover and were told by WH press secretary to never take pictures of him in his wheelchair. Etc. Same is true for JFK. Most reporters knew about his drug addiction and salacious life with mistresses like Marilyn Monroe but were told to close lip.

Come to think of it, a lot of these scandals were covered up with J. Edgar Hoover as FBI chief. Possibly a connection there, being that he always had the inside skinny on everyone.

At any rate, this is nothing new. It just seems more blatant now because its no longer everyone's dirty little secret.
