Tamir Rice's family accuses prosecutor of 'manipulating' grand jury to get cops out of indictment for 12-year-old's death

The family of a 12-year-old black boy shot by police in Ohio is claiming that a prosecutor abused the grand-jury process to ensure that the two officers responsible wouldn't be indicted.

The family of shooting victim Tamir Rice was displeased with Cuyahoga County prosecutor Tim McGinty before Monday's announcement that neither of the officers involved in Rice's death would be indicted.

Cleveland police officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback were facing potential indictment after Loehmann shot and killed Rice, who appeared to be drawing a gun from his waistband, in November 2014. The gun was ultimately found to be a toy airsoft gun with the orange safety cap removed.

A week before the grand jury decided not to indict the officers, The New York Times reported that Jonathan S. Abady, a lawyer for Rice's mother, had already come to expect that no charges would be filed.

"We have never seen a prosecutor try so hard to lose a case," Abady said.

The grand jury needs only to find that the evidence presents probable cause that a crime has been committed in order to indict a suspect, but Rice's family claims that McGinty seemed to be working explicitly to convince the grand jury of the officers' innocence.

It's not going to change until these parents teach their children right from wrong. Ignorant parents raise ignorant children, and then want to blame somebody else for their failures.

well of course. what else did you expect?

This family can go to hell. Just like the family of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Freddie Gray they are suddenly worried about their child. We have their number. If they would have cared even a fraction for their child while they were alive as they do in death, the child would be alive. Of course the payoff is more lucrative when they are dead. These people are nauseating and aren't worth a second of a decent person time.

2:14 Actually, no you can not. Learn what an assault rifle ACTUALLY IS, and learn the laws.

Dumbest comment of the year contender! Good job!

How about teaching your child to be responsible? When anyone sees someone waving what looks like a gun around, and calls the police for help what are they suppose to do? The police did right and protected the citizens. ONCE AGAIN, the police told the thug to stop and he didn't so action needed to be taken.

Had the parents, guardians actually parented this kid and taught him right from wrong, and his poor behavior and actions will have negative actions then this probably would never have happened. It is not the officers fault. They did their jobs. The kid was stupid by waving around what appeared to be a gun. You only have to look at the video to see that. Once again, the blacks never take accountability for their actions, they just deflect and blame others because they are stupid and continue to do dumb things and expect and different outcome. Try teaching all your kids respect for themselves and others and not playing with toys in public that can appear to be guns. Show some sense for once!

I don't think you have any more of a clue what the word "RIGHTS" means, than what an "assault rifle" is.

And exactly what does a law abiding adult's RIGHT to carry a legal weapon in a safe, non-threatening, responsible manner, have to do with this case, involving a kid with an illegally altered airsoft gun, who was strutting around threatening and pointing it at people?

His parents should be indicted.

Non parenting to blame here. Enough is enough.
