Rates for Priority Mail packages shipped via the U.S. Postal Service will go up on average 9.8% on Jan. 17, a move that comes at the same time that private delivery services are also raising rates.
Within the last month, UPS Ground service rates increased on average 4.9% and FedEx by 4.9%.
In addition to the Priority Mail rate hike, the Priority Mail Express prices will rise on average 14.4%, says USPS.
"This is the first price increase in more than three years. Calculated over that three year period, overall the price change averages out to 3.3% per year,” said USPS spokesman Roy Betts.

Must be doing something right though. More & more Amazon packages ship USPS, while so many other shippers use either FedEx or UPS to deliver a package to the Post Office for final delivery.
Something right? Don't think so. How can somebody state that rates have not gone up for 3 years. Yes, some rates went up and others did not. 1st Class stamp is the most obvious.
USPS is losing money every year. They continue to lose more with the junk mail. Competing carriers (i.e., UPS) contract with USPS for the final delivery because the cost to UPS is cheaper than UPS delivering all the way. But, if USPS continues to lose money, why do the provide UPS the service when it helps lose more money. The USPS bozos brag instead about how their parcel volume is going up but never mention that it's not profitable.
I have been using the usps for 45 years and to this day never had one problem at all
With the price of fuel half of what it was you would think they would be making money like the airlines are.
Yay... pay them more to be inept. Great job US.
Why not keep the price the same and just lose more money. They can set whatever price they want because we will always foot the bill for the loss anyway.
