At the Democratic presidential debate in Charleston, S.C., Sunday night, former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley defended his record in Baltimore and Maryland on criminal justice.
Asked about his crime policies in light of the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore police custody, O'Malley said Sunday night that "we weren't able to make our city immune from setbacks" but, "we were able to save a lot of lives."
O'Malley said he repealed the possession of marijuana as a crime and repealed the death penalty in the state. He said incarceration rates and violent crime rates dropped under his watch.
O'Malley also said investing in cities will be a top priority. Asked about his priorities for his first 100 days in office, the former Maryland governor said Sunday that he would focus on efforts to boost wages, promote clean energy and enhance cities.

The payment of sales tax for goods purchased is required by law. It is public record that O'Malley made a purchase of furniture from the State of Maryland for nearly $10,000. He did not pay any taxes and therefor is a law breaker and tax dodger. Some use the term "crook" to describe his behavior. Why does anyone want to elect a crook to lead our country?
Hillary has even more baggage and is now trying to project herself as an ongoing member of the Obama team. If I were Obama, I would be very careful about being viewed as potentially contributing to some of the laws the Clintons have broken.
Bernie Sanders is the only chance the DNC has and that's not much.
O'Malley you sir are a Disgrace to Md and the Irish,Fool.
3 lunatics! In a number of respects, he's the worst of the bunch. Hope he never again holds elected or appointed office, and spends his time busking.
Wow! Brilliant Malley....repeal the laws that lead to criminal charges / reduce the rate of incarceration...this is a guy everybody should get behind....(and maybe shove off Calvert Cliffs?)
And who believes that?
He's only hoping for a federal position..no one else will hire him
Modern technology should enable instant fact checks, even if a debate only lasts 1 hour.I would not have any problem with some sort of an alarm going off after ANY candidate made a false statement.Knowing this in advance would tend to keep candidates realistic and honest.Don't laugh,I'm serious.Several loud dings that would temporarily stop the debate while the commentator who asked the question informed the candidate that his or her statement had been deemed incorrect.Ponder that.
