My name is Nicole Viola, my father Robert Viola who is a decorated Vietnam Veteran, passed away November 27, 2015 from esophageal cancer. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. I am in need of $5000 to pay the funeral home to hold his body until Arlington National Cemetery can arrange his burial service, which I have been told can take 2-4 months. I have 72 hours to come up with this money because the morgue at the Hospice center he was in for his last days can only keep him for 72 hours. The funeral home needs payment upfront to hold his body for Arlington National Cemetery. Being buried at Arlington National Cemetery is my father's last wish and I want to honor his wishes and have my father laid to rest with honor as he deserves. Please help me carry out my father's wishes and allow him to truly rest in peace with dignity and distinction. I am truly grateful for any and all assistance I can get at this difficult time.

Since this person is a decorated Vietnam Vet, it seems strange that the funeral home would not be willing to hold his body gratis.

Isn't there a funeral home who can step in and help this lady because it is obvious she is being swindled in her time of grief. My sister in law's father's body was held for many more months than 4 while awaiting burial in Arlington and the bill was half that much and it was in a high rent district where prices are higher on everything.
As a Viet Nam vet, if my family bought me a chest freezer and kept me in the garage until Arlington could accept me for proper burial with full military honors, I wouldn't have a problem with it. We come from a generation that could do almost anything, using almost nothing, to get the job done. Those of us who saw the worst did the most with the least. We accepted that the final outcome was what mattered, damn convention and, if possible, looked to have a chuckle over some of the irony that trapped us all.
I'm a former marine and vfw....5000 for freezer space? I find it extremely difficult to believe some funeral home wouldn’t do this for free for a decorated vet. Sorry, this doesn't pass the smell.test.

It wouldn't be that surprising. The Government constantly throws up barriers and forces you through private enterprises owned by their friends to fix the problem. I also think this is exactly how our Government treats those who fought to make them richer.
Not confirming this is true, it just wouldn't surprise me.

It could be clip art that the daughter used to say vietnam rather than an actual patch. Just like I'm sure she didn't drwa the marines logo.

Cremation now would solve the problem. The cremation could be done for around $1000. The cremains and the urn or other approved container would be transported by the family and buried at Arlington with all the dignity that would be afforded a service person in a casket. No expense for embalming, no expense for casket, no funeral home expense for transportation of the casket and remains to Arlington.
Some morgue in that city, be it funeral home, or anywhere could assist. I am genuinely sorry for your loss, and respect that he was a veteran but since Vietnam did he never have insurance, and doesn't the military offer assistance in these circumstances?
Cremation is how I'm going to have it. My last carbon footprint.

Regarding the decorations and service patches shown, unless you're military, you usually don't know what belongs to what service.

i looked in Obituary and googled his name. Only Robert Viola found is one that died in 2014.
