Ocean City’s corroded and chipped-paint fire hydrants will be getting a makeover, the City Council decided at the evening Monday meeting. The council awarded the fire hydrant repainting bid to R&R Coatings in Salisbury on the recommendation of Public Works Director Hal Adkins.
R&R Coatings put a bid in for the repainting project for $45 per unit. With approximately 850 hydrants in the town, the overall cost will be $38,250. That money can be paid out of the Water Department’s Operating Budget without additional appropriation, Adkins said.
“Although I initially reacted, ‘how could they do that for that low amount of money,’ R&R recently did exterior painting and power washing of the building we are standing in today,” Adkins told the council. “I have no reason to disqualify them.”

The whole town needs a face lift.....
100 career personnel. Assign each of them 9 hydrants and give them some paint. Save a bunch of money.
How many cadets does OC have? One of the first lessons one must learn is the maintenance of equipment.

Bingo!! Ding, Ding, Ding!
Paid firemen sleeping all day that is.
Paid out of some Operating Budget? REALLY? I wonder where Operating Budgets come from.
Space to Ocean City: Return to Earth immediately! We just realized that you must get money from your taxpayers for your Operating Budget. Yeah, it was cool to build new Firehouses for your guys and Life Saving buildings for your guys. The problem is when does it end? Same bus drivers, same pay. Same maintenance people, same pay.
Just why are your elite so special.
We would appreciate more money too.
Anything Geo L Ralph Jr. is involved in is eventually going to be screwed up. No doubt he is in the business an no doubt if you work with him long enough , you will get screwed. It is a shame Geo 111 has to put up with the old crook.
They sleep all day while ems saves there job.
If I was the mayor in Salisbury I would make all the paid firemen paint fire hydrants every day unless it is raining or snowing.
My dog wants to help!
