General Electric Headquarters Sets In January

The presence of corporate headquarters of giants such as GE can boost a state's economy by providing hundreds of high-paying jobs, as well as the taxes that come along with the company. It also increases the amount of taxes a state can collect through business and income taxes. Instead, Immelt is trying to ensure that GE's headquarters are located in a state that will benefit the company in the long term, regardless of who is CEO. GE employs about 800 people at its Fairfield County headquarters.

Earlier this year, General Electric predicted that the decision whether to move would be made by the end of 2015. It is rumored that after touring many cities, GE has narrowed its options down to either Boston, New York state or Providence, according to a December 10 story in the Boston Globe, which said that GE is interested in Boston's up and coming Seaport District.

He said Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo has led the state to the most successful pension reform in the country, which likely has GE's eye. Hopefully, they will find out for sure next month.

What this really means, is they're shopping around for the most lucrative "incentives" a city can afford to throw their way, for picking up and moving there. Corporate welfare.

At least they elected to stay in the US this time. Next time, we may lose them.

Voting the correct leaders is the only way to keep these American companies here.

Lose them to other countries, as we have already, and we will die.
