A Viewer Writes: Peaky's Ocean City, MD

Just a quick heads up that Peaky's Rooftop Restaurant (located at 138th st in Ocean City, MD) unexpectedly closed for good on Sunday morning. I would suggest that your readers avoid planning events at their second location in Princess Anne, as they vacated their Ocean City location unexpectedly and without notice. Reservations for events such as Thanksgiving dinner, New Year's Eve, And individual social club meetings and weddings/events were voided and cancelled without notice. Now my family and I have to go through the hassle of finding a new dining option for Thanksgiving in off season Ocean City when we had made reservations far in advance.

Thanks for the notice. I would try Captains table on 15th street for your thanksgiving dinner.

Don't be quick to judgment on this one Folks. we'll provide a follow up story on this matter soon. Their restaurant in Princess Anne is fine and is doing business as usual. While inconvenient for some in Ocean City, be patient and hopefully we'll deliver you the rest of the story soon enough.

Cook at home. It's better than any low end restaurant.

So terribly sorry that some people will have to dirty their own hands cooking a dinner for loved ones, instead of going out and being waited on by people who can't stay home with their own families.

Yes it will probably be a big hassle for you there's only 20 or more restaurant offering Thanksgiving dinner.

5:25. Your comment was rude and unnecessary.

In all honesty - the OC real estate taxes are simply to high for any business to make it. Remember the English Grill that was located on Coastal Hwy near 142nd Street - I vividly remember SBYnews showing the real estate tax bill for that location - and it was in excess of $20,000 per year. So I can understand why Peeky's decided to also throw in the towel at the OC location.

Stupid citizens - Mayor Jim Mathias helped to run the resort into the ground. Just look at the municipal employees salaries. No wonder people are running for the hills - if they are smart they'll high tail it out of OC. Taxes, fees, business regs., flush tax, sewer, water bills (highest in the State). Just to much for anyone to sustain.

And yet the citizens elevate and elect Jim Mathias to the Maryland Senate. What a crying shame.

I will also add that dealing with the county for any food related business is just plain torture if you are trying to start something new. The rules and regulations will cost you $$$$.

Truly the food and Bev. an catering business is managed by some loser in the OC City government... people in the know--know who this loser is--he is anti-business, lazy, and entitled---any good Mayor would have fired his butt years ago--

Taxes, fees, and they prowl on the internet Facebook etc.. looking for people to break the law before they have even broken the law---very scary people. It's a wonder they have any business down there at all... so corrupt it's hideous

I too have delivered to both Peakys locations and found them both to be above average in terms of cleanliness. The pricing of food and drink are very reasonable. Ironically, I was in the Rooftop Lounge Saturday evening and there was a very nice crowd enjoying the food and live entertainment. I agree, there must be more to this story.

No, I think 5:25 nailed it. Very good point made.

13 comment about nothing. It closed, get over it. Plenty of places to eat since the only new business on the shore are restaurants, fast food and bars.

Things keep going the way they are, my Folks will probably be eating Borscht soup for thanksgiving.

Stop whining. At least you didn't have to close your business in ObamAmerica. With that said, try the Carousel. They do a nice job and will fit you in.

Peaky's wasn't around in the 50's more like 80's...They have good food that's all I need.

You must be young or a "come here" The Peacocks had a restaurant in Pr Anne in the 40s (known as H &H) Somewhere along the way folks said "going to Peakys". Anybody remember Peakys on the corner of Broad & Somerset (in Clyde Marriner's filling station) or on Somerset Ave in Careys Confectionery, next to Arcade Theater - then he moved to Byrds filling station on corner of Mt Vernon Rd and 13. After Peaky died, his son took over. Little Peaky sold it a few years ago to the family who owns it now

Peaky's in Princess Anne has been there as long as I can remember. The last time we went there, the food was good enough, but the dining room smelled like the mens' room urinals had erupted. The carpet was so old and filthy, you couldn't be sure what color it used to be.

It smelled like they'd had a bad overflow, and the pee had backed up and flooded the dining room, it was so strong. Even had a slight odor of urinal cakes among the sour, pungent scent of old pee. We asked the server about it, and she said it had been like that for a couple days, and everybody there had kind of gotten used to it. Gross.

Needless to say, that was the LAST time we went.

Those were urinal cakes ? I thought they were after dinner mints ugh !

Not exactly fine dining, but I would rather eat at there than any of the olive garden/red lobster/golden corral/bob evans chains that dominate the culinary scene in salisbury. Years ago, one the best meals to be had was the Washington Hotel in Princess Anne. BTW, the last restaurant I dined in was Restaurant 213 in Fruitland. That is real food and fine dining.
