Dover - The Delaware State Police announces today, the retirement of Major Robert C. Hawkins Jr. who has proudly served the citizens of Delaware with distinction and faithful service after nearly 34 years of service.
“During the past 33 plus years the technology is light years ahead of where it was when I began. We did not even have portable radios or bullet proof vests. Today, our Troopers have in car computers that allows us to track crime and accidents in real time with dedicate resources to combat those crimes and accidents daily. What, has not changed are today’s Troopers who continue to be men and women that are honest, dedicated and hard working.”

Operations Major for Kent and Sussex Counties
Major Robert Hawkins was hired on March 1, 1982 into the 45th Delaware State Police Recruit Class. He began his career assigned to Troop 3 during his Field Training Officers’ Program and then was later assigned to uniformed patrol at Troop 5 in Bridgeville. In August of 1984 he distinguished himself and became a member of the State Police Scuba Team and served as the Officer in Charge from January 1990 to 2005. On October 1, 1986 as a detective, he was assigned to Troop 4 in Georgetown and then later worked at Troop 3 in Camden. He was assigned to the Academy as a Drill Instructor, (known today as TAC officers) on January of 1989. On March 15, 1991 he became a fellow member of the Tactical Control Unit where he worked as a team leader. He quickly excelled, and on July 1, 1992 was promoted to Detective Sergeant in charge of Troop 3 Criminal Investigations and then August 1, 1994 promoted to Lieutenant of CIU. On October 27, 1997 he was assigned to the Homicide Unit as a Lieutenant and was promoted to Captain and served in the Homicide Unit as the Commander. After three years he served as the Troop 3 Commander. On November 2, 2009 he was assigned to the Delaware State Police Academy as the Director of Training. Four years later, Robert C. Hawkins Jr. was promoted to the prestigious rank of Major where he joined the Executive Staff as the Kent and Sussex Operations Major on December 14, 2013.

Major Hawkins, who proudly served Delaware and its citizens, retires today Friday, October 16, 2015 after nearly 34 years of dedicated service. Major Hawkins resides in Felton, Delaware with his wife. He is a very proud father of four children.
The men and women of the Delaware State Police thank Major Robert C. Hawkins Jr. for nearly 34 years of dedicated service, sacrifice, and leadership to the Division and citizens of Delaware. We wish him and his family the very best wishes in their future endeavors.
