Salisbury’s record win saves the day for Maryland football

WASHINGTON – At least one Maryland state school won Saturday in college football.

After the Terps lost 45-6 at West Virginia, Salisbury won a 91-7 victory over Southern Virginia, the first home game in their new conference, the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

This was a record for the Sea Gulls — the previous record was an 84-7 win over Husson University back in 2010. The record for most points scored in a single Division III football game is 105, set by Rockford against Trinity Bible in 2003.

Despite the score, the Gulls didn’t “run it up” on Southern Va., who are in just their second season in Division III football and only won one game last season

Gulls didn't run it up????? Is that supposed to be a joke. Really, really unsportsmanlike. Shame on the Salisbury coaching staff.

You never score that many points! Disgrace to Salisbury! PUNT the ball on first down after 60 points!

Were the Southern Virginia players in wheelchairs?

Punting the ball on first down would be a slap in the face....

I guess these idiots shaming Salisbury university are the kind of parents who believe all kids get a trophy and don't keep scores. Everyone is a winner. .... It's disgusting. And we wonder why we have problems in America.

This week it's SU v. Little Sisters of the Poor.

So are they suppose to just kneel down on every offensive play then? All they did was run the ball. BS to running up the score.

Poor sports. And you 5:54 are an idiot.

There are many ways to shut down the scoring in football 7:04. Scoring 91 points on an opponent was simply classless. You must be involved with the university athletic program or one of the coaches. Shame on them and shame on you. The win should serve as an embarrassment to the team, coaches and university.

7:55. How do you shut down the scoring? I was at the game (first time ever at SU) and they had their second and third string in.

Congrats Coach Woods and SU players! You play to win the game, and that's exactly what you did!

Also, congrats to Dan Quinn, former SU player, who's now the HC of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons! Great comeback win over the lowly Cowboys!

Great sportsmanship SU. I hope some future team scores 100 points against you at your own home stadium. Lack of class, you just embarrassed your football program and the college!
