Valero On Mt. Hermon Rd. Won't Accept Credit/Debit Cards For Advertised Gas Prices

There are people who follow "Gas Buddy" for the best rates on local gas prices. Today the Valero on Mt. Hermon Rd. refused to take one of our viewers debit card to pay for the full tank of gas he wanted to purchase. The pumps said they accept cards but when he put his debit card in it said see cashier.

When he went inside they informed him they couldn't take the card to pay for his full tank of gas. She kept asking how much gas did he want and he said, I want to fill my tank. She again said, how much do you want? And Obama/O'Malley want these people to get $15.00 an hour. Just know that Valero may have the best advertised rate but you have to pay cash.

Wine Rack in Fruitland is cheaper at 2.41 anyway and they took my card!

That's not an unusual practice, there are a lot of places that give a lower price for cash sale. Super Soda on rt 12 in Snow Hill has gas $0.05 cheaper if you pay with cash. You go in put $60 down, pump, go back in and get your change.

This is very common big deal. Looking for a story where one doesn't exist? Try driving I95, this is how 9 out if 10 gas stations are.

simple solution. Do not go there again.

She was asking how much gas he wanted so she knew what to authorize the amount on the card for. How is she supposed to know how big his tank is? If she authorized a $100 to fill his tank (my truck takes about $90) and it only took $40 he wouldn't get that $60 back in his account for 2 days and would be right back at the store complaining.

...most gas stations have a cash price.

I'd tell her I only wanted a half a tank, and if it took any more, I'd come in and pay the balance.

That will probably work on somebody like that!

i've had that happen at a gordy's tigermart, a valero and the pure station on 13 also. i figured it was the new chip in the card or something.
finally just put $20.00 on the card and got the gas. very frustrating.

With a debit card you have to have (I believe) $75 available in his account. It protects the store from gas theft.

Most gas stations do not have 2 prices most take your card wawa exon shell only little pop and mom shops have cash and card price so the don't have to absorb the .02% charge on the card Valero stations is a corp this one must be franchised so the owner don't want to absorb the fee for use of the card. in the long run you lose money by losing costumers but also remember the station only make about 3 to 4 cents per gallon they sell rest go to state in taxes road use tax and to the co. i know because i take credit card and i know what i pay for taking them. and also the more you take in cc sales the less you pay in fees as long as you meet min requirement

I avoid all of the cash price stations, they lose not me.

Fuel is tax deductible for me in my business, so a card is really the best way to keep track. I get a separated statement at the end of the year showing fuel, hardware, restaurants, etc. If they want to be "Business Friendly", they won't have a cash price.

Frankly I do not know if my service Station has a cash price or not. 9 times out of 10 I go to my closest place (Royal Farms). I have never used a credit card to purchase gas. In fact after my account was hacked through 3 credit cards in 2 years, I only use a credit card if there is no other choice. So far I have had the choice to use cash when making purchases, except when I make a purchase on line.

314-You obviously don't travel much. I have an RV, and have been throughout the lower 48. I put on 300K on my last Winnie. I'd say 75% of gas stations have "2 prices". Fact is, the gas stations don't make money off the fuel, it's everything else they sell.
