BALTIMORE —Most Baltimore City police officers -- 79 percent -- do not live in the city they patrol, the WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team has learned.
Baltimore police officers make their homes not only in far-away counties, like Cecil, Montgomery, Queen Anne's and St. Mary's, but also in nearby states -- environments quite different from the one they police every day.
During the April riots in Baltimore, the men and women of the Baltimore City Police Department held the line while people hurled objects at them, set fires and looted.
The Baltimore chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said the relationship between the police and the community could improve if more officers actually lived in the city.

Ok...that just makes them smart. Most Marines don't have a three bedroom rancher in Iraq.
If more Baltimorians wanted to work instead of sponge off the system, there might be more officers living in the city!
The NAACP should realize that Baltimore's police-community relations might best improve if a large number of members of the community lived outside of Baltimore.
Great analogy 8:33. Unfortunately the NAACP is the epitome of low information and this could prove to be something they will have a hard time grasping.
That's not unusual. State police usually live miles away from where they work so there is not conflict of interest.
You have a few types of areas in Bmore. Places that need cops. And place that dont need cops. Obviously they are not going to live in the slums. And the other places are extremely expensive to buy in. So they buy were they can afford to. There is nothing wrong with this arrangement. The NAACP needs to STFU. so sick of people manufacturing issues were there are none.
How about baltimore residents stop acting live lawless heathens.

The real problem is that the citizens of Baltimore are running out of people with money or goods to rob. Few people there work so robbery is an important profession.
If teachers don't have to live in the areas where they teach, why should police officers have to?
of course they don't live there, it's a very dangerous place and when the mayor says don't disturb the thugs, it' even more dangerous
Where the police live has nothing to do with the ignorant actions of the "thugs". Lets start with their upbringing, from whatever family member they end up staying with.
There was a rule for police and firefighters in Baltimore that said they had to live in the city. Many would use a P.O. box as their mailing address to beat this. This was in the 80's. If they think for one second that in today's times they could get a worthy fire or police force from what's available in city limits they're crazy. There are city personnel that live here on the shore!
I don't blame them one bit.....
They need to live where they work, that makes them better cops, because they have a vested interest in cleaning up their own neighborhoods. Also, they are being paid by the cities tax base, and should be contributing more than just 40 hours of work to their community.
So just deputize the local drug lord? The people who live there are mostly criminals. None fit for the position. And if some were fit then it would be suicide to do it.

do u think any spd officers would dare live in princeton homes, church st, the reservation, doverdale, washington st, fitzwater st, etc etc. the cops are much smarter than that
