The Civil War was much more than "to free the slaves". People who took civics in the 70's, 80's should know this.
If you look hard enough anything can be considered "racist". The U.S. flag with the original 13 colonies had slaves, throughout the countries history until the civil war. From the time of George Washington until Abraham Lincoln, all U.S. flags flown accepted slavery. If the confederate flag is deemed "racist" than ALL flags that flew prior to the civil war were also "racist"
It had to do with what rights the states have in self rule and how far can the federal govt can control those rights! The same battle we are fighting today with all those three letter agencies...BLM, EPA, HSA, etc!
Let's not read too much into the Civil War 150 years after the fact.If the "much more" that you refer to can be condensed into a couple of paragraphs then so be it.Manufacturing Civil War evidence only serves to invoke hostilities.
I find the flag of Muslim countries, and the wearing of Burka's very intimidating and offensive, can I get them banned?
I am very scared to fly on a plane when I see a man in a Turban, and a woman in a Hijib, they remind me of the terrible killings and death of 911. I feel intimidated by them, I need them banned from airports.
If the flag is banned, where will the noncese end?

I understand the history of the Confederate Flag and it having a different meaning than it does today. To gather a different view, perhaps a look the the history of the Swastika will provide some insight into how painful some symbols can be through the evolution of society.
The swastika has an extensive history. It was used at least 5,000 years before Adolf Hitler designed the Nazi flag. The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika, which means “good fortune” or “well-being."
In the beginning of the twentieth century the swastika was widely used in Europe. It had numerous meanings, the most common being a symbol of good luck and auspiciousness. However, the work of Schliemann soon was taken up by völkisch movements, for whom the swastika was a symbol of “Aryan identity” and German nationalist pride.
Despite its origins, the swastika has become so widely associated with Nazi Germany that contemporary uses frequently incite controversy.
Even one of the most evil symbols in the history of our planet had good origins at some point. When that symbol has been adopted by an evil group to do harm, it doesn't mean that people can't celebrate their heritage. Fly it in your yard or buy a t-shirt if you want. It just doesn't belong on a flag pole at the state capitol of one of the United states in 2015. Time mixed with evil can change the meaning of any symbol.

Slaves fought on both sides. The primary reason for the war was that the South cut off the cotton supply to the north. Actually today slavery is much worse. The Democrats have enslaved black people in welfare. And those people don't even know it.
You don't seriously think the Civil War was fought to "free the slaves", do you?
Or that the South seceded so they could keep all those poor souls in bondage?
Revisionist history is revisionist history.
The flag has been used consistently post civil war era as a symbol for hate groups. Heritage is yesteryears argument pre civil war. When heritage is stated in reference to the confederate flag, I refer to Frederick Douglass's speeches "What to the slave is the Fourth of July 1852" and "What the Black Man Wants - 1865", which depicts the black mans plight during that era. Douglass pushed Lincoln to allow black men to fight for freedom.
Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation: February 1863; The union had over 200,000 paid soldiers.
The confederacy was so bent on keeping Slaves, Sex, $$$ and their kingdom lifestyle, they didn't allow black soldiers until 1865.
The confederates only had maybe 3-5 thousand black soldiers and lost.
Sort of like the Republican party today, Good try though. LOL!!!
what about the dukes of hazzard. I don't think those good ol' boys were racist becauses the general lee had the flag on it's top.
Let us live in the here and now Folks. We only have today.

Let's not forget the significance of the Morrill Tariff in the debate on secession in the South.
Idiots no confederate wanted to free the Black Man , Take poor blind deaf and dumb Black off the site. It was against the law for Balcks to fight , they could only be servants. Check your History
Uncles? I dont think his uncles were alive for the civil war.
The demacrats hav not only enslaved black people with poverty, both parties have enslaved us all with income tax. If they can take pay that you earn with the labor of your hands or mind, then they own you!
