More great news for Salisbury residents—this time in the Johnson’s Lake neighborhood—where the City has just been granted receivership of the derelict property at 204 W. Philadelphia Avenue.
Vacant since 2008, and condemned for lack of maintenance and disrepair in 2011, the property has been on the City’s radar from some time now. Multiple previous attempts to obtain receivership were unsuccessful due to the owner avoiding service of notice from the Court. On this latest attempt, Susan Phillips, Director of Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance was able to successfully petition for “alternative service”. The City was awarded receivership today, May 15th, 2015.
We need your help to keep the momentum going! I hope you can join me this coming Monday, May 18th at 4 p.m. in Council chambers to let our Council know the time to take back our neighborhoods is NOW.

So, Jim, what is the City going to do with it? Auction? Destroy it? Remodel and sell it? On whose dime?
I know its an eye sore. May bring others property values down. But how can the city take a property from anyone? Were the taxes paid? If so I don't think its right. If I wanna buy a house and leave it vacant to fall apart its my business as long as I pay my taxes.
And just why is this a bad thing? This is good and the Mayor should be applauded.
Stephen Scott does not care how this derelict house looks in our neighborhood, as he chooses to live in Snow Hill. Try and sell a house in view of Mr Scott's house and see how much the dollar value decreases the value of your house. Mr Scott also owes $12, 892 in back taxes. 19 cases on the Wicomico County Judiciary case file, and not all cases concern this house. I don't know Scott's side of reasoning but I do believe he is costing taxpayers..money
People like you are why there is s need for code and compliance. You want to buy a property and let it fall apart and make the community look bad do it in the country where no one has to see it.
Wait a second. I would never do it. So don't say people like me...... The point is when does the government cross the line? What's next? You have to reside your house cause its not the color the town likes? Or the same with your shingles? I mean come on. You can't even have a project car in your yard without being forced to pay for tags and insurance.
Is Ireton just concerned about his neighborhood? On TV the other night all they showed was his neighborhood. Well guess what, that is not the only neighborhood in Salisbury. Take a look around Salisbury and you will see a lot of blight but is anything done about it - NO. I'm sick and tired of everything he does is about him and his neighborhood. His stupid meeting at 4PM today will just be him grandstanding and we see enough of that already.
