Maryland is launching an ad campaign to convince people it's just as fun as its neighbors

The state's Office of Tourism Development wants visitors here to indulge in the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings of Maryland.

The office recently launched a new ad campaign, dubbed "Satisfy Your Five Senses," that highlights the sensory experiences across the state.

"A vacation is so much how you remember all those sensations,” said Liz Fitzsimmons, the office's assistant director of advertising and communications.

Bill Pencek, the state's acting tourism director, said the campaign also aims to overcome the perception that Maryland doesn't have as much to offer as surrounding states.

Its cheaper and more fun elsewhere!
I go to the Outer Banks or West Virginia. Much more to see and much cheaper! Even a Cruise ship is cheaper than a week in OC! Florida as well offers packages far less than a week in at a Maryland resort! I take my hard earned money where it can stretch farther.

Absolutely true 3:35. And Maryland's taxes are no "fun" either. I can't get over how much a week in touristy, kitschy, mediocre Ocean City costs. Expensive, horrendous parking, to trudge up and down an artificially placed "Boardwalk" jammed with one after another tacky, gaudy, nearly identical t-shirt and souvenir shops selling garish Made in China schlock with an "Ocean City" sticker on it. Maybe a few somewhat quality shops, and overpriced, dismal food stands, among the tourist bars.

No thanks, cheaper for us to go elsewhere.

It's because the other places are a lot cheaper and more family friendly than Maryland. Has anyone been to OC recently? Its $500 a night at the Hilton with a 3 day minimum. For that same money I can get a 2 bedroom ocean front condo in Myrtle beach. And not to mention there is a ton to do at Myrtle beach and OC is a one trick pony with the board walk.

May we introduce you to the "official smell of DelMarVa"?!

We tax your poop and pee here - and increased the tax thanks to Marty OweMoron!

State troopers pulling people over for a few miles over the speed limit on their way to spend too much money in Ocean City!

WA WA WA get a pacifier! Delmarva is a wonderful place to live...summer time hot steamed crabs and ice cold beer, fresh fish and seafood everywhere...many many smaller restaurants to eat at and enjoy fine food. Truly the "Land of Pleasant Living" To each their own...if you don't like it move!! It's that simple to solve your problem...BYE
