BALTIMORE (WJZ)—CareFirst, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association announced the company has been the target of a cyber attack.
The company says they are currently working with Mandiant–one of the world’s leading cyber security firms.
CareFirst says the attackers gained limited, unauthorized access in June of 2014, to a single database which was discovered by the company’s IT department.
Evidence suggests the attackers could have potentially acquired member user names created by individuals to the CareFirst’s website, as well as members’ names, birth dates, email addresses, and subscriber identification number.

Being hacked is the new defense. In this case the IT dept generated the hack to relieve the company of external pressure.Too many complicating factors have entered into the insurance business.Just a simple "we can no longer deal with the Obama Administration" won't fix things. Now hacking provides the necessary excuse.
Great! My company just switched to Carefirst.
12:43 PM Dont worry I am sure its only our own government taking a look to keep us safe. I trust them so should you. Gosh I feel so safe knowing they are watching me.
Just a few days ago on this blog was an article about BC/BS raising rates to an unholy amount per person. I'm against that and said so.
Now this. Just when the hell was BC/BS going to tell us this happened and what they were doing to stop it and protect us???????
No wonder I'm getting over 500 scams calls monthly. Now I know the reason. This insurance company is absolutely liable for anything that happens to subscribers because of their IT failures.
