Salisbury-Wicomico County Fire Service Discussion To Be Held In Secret – Now, That’s Real “Transparency”

If any public matter should be resolved entirely by discussion held in open meetings, it's the fire service funding situation that we've been reporting even before Messrs. Culver and Ireton agreed to negotiate a reasonable agreement to increase County funding of the City’s fire department to fairly compensate for the service that it provides. Every single resident of Wicomico County has a dog in this fight.

But, according to a report, that meeting won’t be open to the public – either to attend or to follow it on PAC 14 – because the County wants to meet in secret.

Our first thought was to urge the City to insist on an open meeting and refuse to meet in behind a closed door, but the subject is much too important for delay. So we are urging Bob Culver to allow at least the media, including a representative of Sbynews, to attend, even if it's too late to hold the meeting at a place that’s large enough to accommodate the public and to have the meeting on PAC 14 (live, if possible).

Very disappointed in Culver. What has happened to him wanting the people to know everything?

When public SERVANTS (that's right- SERVANTS) tell "we, the people", that we are going to raise taxes, fees, surcharges, and such, but we are going to figure how much IN A SECRET MEETING (secret from who?? yep, right again - We, the people. the ones who will PAY), it might be time to put them in their place.
The total arrogance of it should be like a slap in the face. Do they remember who they work for?
Oh yeah. Right.
Once elected, the voter's value diminishes greatly; after all, what good are you now?
They ALL sing the same song and dance the same way.
You keep cheering, even as they bitch-slap you, kick you, spit on you, laugh at you, and act like the public masters they think they are....
Don't stop now.
Keep cheering.

If this is true, this is not what transparency is all about Mr. Culver. Why, you of all people, would you want to meet secretly? You were elected by the people, that means you serve the people, not hold them in suspense by having secret meetings. Shame, Shame on you.

Mr. Culver should tell Ireton to go pound sand. County employees have gotten only one pay raise in the last six years, and I'll be damned if Wicomico County should give Salisbury one damned penny before they give their employees a pay raise. F*** Ireton. Just a whiney little bitch when he doesn't get his way.
