Pink Slips are flying around in the state like there's no tomorrow. ALL "Contractual Employees" in the state are the first to be targeted. The state is asking for volunteers first but get this, by the end of this month, each state department is expected to release 3% of their staff.
Other things you are not hearing from the main stream media is additional companies that are leaving the state of Maryland.
Radio Shack, (for example) just closed their Hagerstown facility/warehouse. 3,000+ employees lost their jobs.
Sardina Cheese closed their operations in Maryland and moved to North Carolina.
I'm told there are companies closing shop like there's no tomorrow and relocating to other states, yet we keep hearing the economy is rebounding. NOT in Maryland, that is.
Governor Hogan has been left with an incredible mess, as has County Executive Bob Culver. I will admit, I am truly enjoying how Hogan is handling this mess and I have to say, he's perfect for the job. He understands business and how business people think. If anyone can turn this difficult situation around, he's the man who will get it done.
To the nay sayers, no, I do not believe it can be done in four years. Hogan will absolutely need a second term to show positive results and that goes for Culver as well.
In the mean time you can all expect people like Jim Ireton to keep throwing sh!t bombs like the Fire Department crap at Culver too distract him. The Media will certainly be ignored because Bob has a difficult job to do and fabricated distractions are nothing but road blocks.
Finally, the tax base in Wicomico County will continue to drop based on the loss of jobs and income. This makes Hogan and Culver's jobs that much more difficult. You can't throw another tax increase at the residents and you can't ask the County to pony up millions of dollars during these hard times and Ireton knows it. Heck, the Liberal Party knows this and that is exactly why they are doing it.
The old saying, "it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better" holds true for the state of Maryland. However, we ALL know cutbacks were a necessary evil based on our former tax and spend liberal leadership. It's going to be a very bumpy ride for a while.
Oh, you should also know that other Counties have already lowered their unemployment times. In other words, you'll get 6 to 8 weeks unemployment and that's about it. There's just not enough money to support long term unemployment any more.

Joe, because of the economy and the fact that some of the states are going broke, some states, not counties are only paying six to eight weeks of unemployment. Maryland is one of a handful of states that still gives you six months of unemployment benefits and that's it!!! The federal EUC PROGRAM ended in December of 2013 which would have extended benefits for and addition three to six months. Because of this, many are dropping off the unemployment rolls and the government spins it like they are still employed and they are not!
But wait.... I thought our economy was booming, unemployment rates are at a 8 year low, and everything was unicorns and rainbows!! That's what obammy and his losers are saying.
I'm afraid until we get some permanent jobs in the private sector and increase our tax base, things will get worse. The residents of the county can no longer afford to support public sector employees like the Board of Education or the salaries that are paid through them. The old saying is true: You can't get blood out of a turnip!
I personally don't mind a little more hardship if the reward at the end is worth it. Due to the tax and spend (on some ridiculous ideas at that) has not worked to help the local economy. Due to this the local area has lost a lot of large well paying jobs. It will be difficult, at best, to attract any large corporation or company to locate any form of operations here again! These CEO's do travel in the same circles and d**n well know what areas to expand in and which to steer clear of, Maryland being one to not even consider with such out of control taxes. What company wants to pay a tax on the rain which falls on their bldgs and parking lots?
I think even if the Jobs do come back to this State and this county, it will take ten or more years to undo the damage that has been done by poor management from both the state and local government of Wicomico county by liberal tax and spend policy's and obstructive laws on both land management and fees.
you can thank the likes of mayor jim ireton who is business unfriendly but his time is winding down.
First of all any of you who think jobs will ever come back to the shore are sadly mistaken. You need a equal amount of industry, retail, ect. Delmarva has chicken......the people like myself have gone to states were the real jobs are and are booming. This mess for the shore was a long time in the making and the blame should be spread very far back. There is no easy fix if any exists at all. Companies have moved onto greener pastures and arent about to just move again. The fact that Mathias is still in office just proves that the people on the shore just dont get......never had never will......I feel bad for you folks simply a clueless bunch......there are plenty of states that are booming so the claim the economy is bad just doesnt hold true.....just look at florida, texas, and so many more.....wake up folks its not getting better and sadly I doubt time will change it.....
Due to nutrient control measures in Annapolis, I don't think the poultry industry will be here much longer.
Which has it worse --
Hogan has Mike Miller
Culver has Liarton
???????????????????????
Let's see if local Media like WBOC or the Daily Times copies this story. Will have to wait and see!!! Of course WBOC only reports Delaware news. Doubt if they would be interested on what goes on on the Md side of the Eastern Shore!
WBOC = COWARDS no new of any substance..They are in bed with libtards dont expect any "watchdog " reporting
To 11:33 Poster that said;

Response: That is correct. SBYnews has been publishing Wicomico's monthly USBLS employment statistics for years and the stats also show this to be true. That is exactly why the Workforce Number keeps dropping - yet Wicomico's population continues to increase.
